Arkansas 500 - What am I going to do about food?

We got it.....mostly anyway....

Don't worry about meals. I've got you covered as part of the $60 you donated to Turpentine Creek for most of them.

Friday night dinner is on me. Burgers, brats, and fixin's.

Friday morning is on you, so if your camping Thursday with me at Turpentine Creek you may want to bring some munchies for breakfast.

Friday lunch is "on the trail", with options to stop by the store here and there.

Friday dinner is catered at the campsite.

Saturday morning coffee and rolls/muffins/cold options...

Saturday lunch is in Jasper on the square, restaurant of your choice, you pay.

Saturday dinner is catered at Turpentine Creek, live music starts at 8'ish - 11.

Sunday breakfast is rolls/muffins/cold options...

Sunday lunch will be at restaurant near Elk River.
End.

I'm really looking forward to this ride. Work has been stressful, and hopefully this will allow me to escape and decompress a bit. Thanks for organizing this. It takes a lot of effort.

We really wanted to do this ride, especially as it's in our back yard. Unfortunately I'll be out of town for work. Perhaps next year!

We appreciate you putting the ride together, and hope that everyone has a great time!

Thanks everyone. Please be patient with me about the routes. Our weather has been not meshing with my work and riding is not an option until Thursday. I am pre-riding day three Thursday and Day 2 Saturday and will post both by Sunday evening. Day one is up at www.arkansas500.com. See y'all soon!

Here's the deal...

For those of you who can not ride the Arkansas 500 this year, just like always, I'll leave the tracks/routes at www.arkansas500.com until summer. Next year, once again, will be different routes...maybe???

Take all the time you need! I am wondering if I should be bringing a hammock or a tent...

Turn-by-Turn Routes with <50 Via Points

Fellow GPSr's...I have neglected my family to spend an absurd amount of time at this computer to learn the intricacies (and deficiencies!) of the latest Garmin hardware and software products. The setup is Basecamp and a new Montana 600 with CNNA 2013.4. Will probably regret not getting the 650 with camera, but that is another story.

That said, I have created 4 routes for Day 1 that will get you there with the sweet Garmin voice of Michelle or Jill, whichever you prefer. I also painstakingly drew tracks over ~30 miles of select trails in the Mill Creek OHV area with Waypoint directions to boot. All verified with "MyTrails" and "artopo11" topographical maps from reputable sources. As a finishing touch, the Mill Creek USFS trail map makes a nice custom map overlay so that you can see the trail system in its entirety on the GPS, legend included:-)

So...if you are one of the guys that likes real-time nav (really nice with noise blocking ear-buds like the Westone UM-1), send me a PM and I will email the GPS map files to you. Day 2 should go quicker now that the learning curve has flattened out a bit! The tough part is getting the off-road sections included, then trimming to 50 via points. Sheeez Garmin, it does not have to be this hard...

Happy Trails,
Brad

Forgot to mention that the tracks for Day 1 look like a total blast! I pre-rode the course by opening the routes in BaseCamp and pressing "Play" at x100 speed. Thanks for all your hard work on this event Scotty! If there is interest and enough time, I will be glad to break down Day 2 and 3 for those that want auto-nav and can't handle over 50 via points. Departing to AR on Tuesday for some extree ridin'

Yeah, I'm kind of a follow the guy in front type of rider. I just can't bring myself to spend hours learning Garmin's way of doing things.
