Talking to a few blokes who've done trackdays recently, two words consistently crop up:

Smooth

Abrasive

The people I've spoken to are saying they're going through tyres nearly twice as fast as pre-resurface, and oddly, the tyres aren't balling up so much as wearing smooth.

Yeah, abrasive pretty much sums it up. But even so, they were grinning from ear to ear when they came back in, and the lap times were several seconds down on last year in a lot of the classes.

Wow I'm surprised they were talking up the new surface, saying they had got rid of the bumps and how fast it was

From all reports Russ, it's a LOT smoother and the big bump at the start of turn three has gone, so they've definitely improved it. You can't even see the join down the middle like you could with the old surface. Once it gets a bit more use, and a bit more rubber gets put down, it might be a bit less abrasive. It's still a green track and there was a bit of slipping and sliding going on after a really brief shower went through. I'm guessing it will take a while before all the oilyness has gone out of it.
