Dang. That's literally half a mile away from the Reserve center I drill at; just across the street from the VA. Unfortunately, I have two more weeks before duty and I won't be on a bike

Hah! I was there to hear Rene speak as well! Very cool! In fact, I parked right next to your Strada! I noticed your riding companion taking pictures and some funny looking thing in a plastic bag but had no clue what it was until just now...

Haha, small world....too bad, could have been the fastest turnaround on a tag ever

Rene's talk was a fun way to spend part of an afternoon (fantastic trip - 4 years on the road!), and we're both enjoying his book. Its definitely not helping with the wanderlust though!

That was probably me taking pictures and being utterly anti-social while I buried my nose in the phone to post the tag:) The other half (GoneToPlaid, he never posts) got caught in the tag photo above, that's his multistrada.

Btw, thanks oakleviathan for getting the RAT back in play, it sounds like you had much bigger problems...there's no need to risk dying of exposure over a tag game!! , hope the bike is back on the road soon!

If you can not see the sign, it is Crowell Gap Road

Ride to this point

See the gate?

It should be noted...
Crowell gap is steep and dirt and quite often rutted with loose rocks. Gnarly on the way up and super sketchy on the way down. But Davo is a super rider and I'm not sure how close the gate is to the pavement.

Actually, if you enter from 220, it is not too bad. There is a steep section, pretty rutted and rough, just go slowly and it can be done on about any bike. If you ride past the sign in the picture, you will have to go down a very steep hill, it may over come your brakes. Probably ok as long as it is dry, I have been down it on the KLR, but with knobbies.

I found this out the hard way when my Buell was new. I went up the steep part and once committed there was no turning around. I remember getting to the top and having the feeling of dread about dropping off the other side with street tires. Fortunately, the 220 side is a gradual descent. I would have kicked myself if I had dropped my brand new bike on only its second voyage.
