Great day, Dale. BTW great job on the tag location, and on the map link. Took us right to it.

Tag. Tee it up.

So, here is something else to discover while you're hunting the RAT:

I blindly stumbled across another hide here at the base of this tree. It is an old Geocache type called a Letterbox. It is old and the container is broken and no longer sealed.
I use "c:geo" geocaching software (maps) when I'm on the bike, but it did not show this one, so it is probably not active anymore. I signed the log anyway and I will try to find it on the www.geocaching.com website and contact the owner.

Cool! A ride he won't soon forget. That's what it's all about.
Prolly needs that turbo to dodge beltway traffic.

So is the tag anywhere near Blacksburg? I'm here for a few days and brought my klr with me, anxious to ride some fire roads in these parts.

Grab.

Had a little trouble finding it, both GPS and map had me turning into Apple Orchard facility the taking a left on a forest service road. I am pretty sure it would have taken me right to the other side of the gate. I knew Draley would not have gone around a gate into a prohibited area. I actually found the correct road fairly quickly, but did not go far enough . GPS indicated I was going off course.

You should have studied those coordinates on Google Maps on your home computer first. But then, it wouldn't have been so much fun finding the secret entrance. Good job.

As usual, I was working with GPS, Google Map, and memory of the tag shots. Usually works out just fine. I was remembering a picture of your bike in front of a gate, and I assumed it was the gate at Apple Orchard. If in doubt, I usually pull up the forum, and compare the tag photo with where I am standing. I could get the photo of the rock that the rat was under to load, but the photo of the tag location was not available. If I had that, there is an obvious difference in the gate in the photo, and the gate at Apple Orchard. Next time I ride by there, I am going to park at the tag location gate, and walk two tenths of a mile past the gate. I am betting all the money that I will walk out right behind the Apple Orchard gate

[QUOTE=draley;24193725]Tag. Tee it up.

This bit of humor escaped me until I got close to the tag. The Apple Orchard dome does look just like a giant golf ball on a tee.

New Tag

Not far off 221

Look to the right of the sign

See the row of rocks? Look to the right of the third or fourth rock

There a couple of smaller rocks. You want to look under the smallest rock, farthest from the road

RAT is under the small stone
