the flasher also need the right load in order to flash. both lights have to be working, one is not enough. adding a resister would make the stock system worse. switching to LEDs means changing the flasher or there is no electrical gain other tha just having LEDs.

sometimes the flasher is just bad too

Thanks Beezer.

I'm not using LEDs or a resistor.

Right signals are wired grey/ground

Left signals wired green/ground

Dash indicator light is wired grey/green

The flasher is marked 12.8 v and my battery was down to 11.7 v so I can see why they weren't working before.

I charged the batt and tried again, this time with 12.86 v ....... still not flashing. I guess I still need more juice?

Oh, and I've tried two different flashers that worked fine before. Another odd thing is the dash indicator light only comes on with the left signals.

I have a feeling everything will work fine once the bike the bike is running..... wishful thinking? It would just be nice to know before I "permanently" install the harness.

I'm ok at spinning wrenches but I completely suck at electrics (that should be obvious by now) so I really appreciate everyone's input.

Well, been makin some slow progress. It starts and idles beautifully. I'm a little surprised since I just installed the KLX needle. Haven't revved it much but seems pretty crisp so far!

I finally have the dash hooked up and working.

Here it is at idle......

And at idle again but with high beam on and grips at high setting.....

Sorry about the crappy flash pics, still pretty cold here.

The goal is to have it roadworthy by April 1st ..... so far so good.

I'm still having the same problem with the turn signals though. They won't flash, just steady on. Any ideas? What am I missing?

You might try upgrading the turn signal flasher to an LED style flasher, even though the are not LED flashers. If the load from them is lower than stock, you may never "trip" the flasher, but an LED flasher should do just fine, assuming that's the problem. LED flashers will work with incandescent turn signals. I had one on my old XT250, even after I decided to not go to LED signals.

Exactly. That's the EXACT one I used on my Yamaha, but I believe the pre-08 KLR is of the round style....

This thread http://www.klr650.net/forums/showthread.php?t=94533

Says that this flasher fits the KLR250, I suspect it'll fit the 650 also. http://www.superbrightleds.com/morei...c-flasher/193/

Good luck, I'm sure you can find a flasher that'll be plug and play, or at least mostly p-n-p, I'm just not sure which one it is.

Picked up an electronic flasher at the auto parts store last night and the signals now flash, best $11 I ever spent! Thanks for the tip Mr. Scout

Some good news....

...and some bad.

The weather finally cleared up a bit so I was able to take the bike for a short shake down run. It fired right up and ran perfectly, idled nice and steady, pulled strong, etc.

I rode it about a 1/4 mile up the road and stopped to let it idle while I checked for leaks, everything looked good but I turned around and headed back anyway.

Got back to the driveway and again let it idle while I checked things over......then it just died and wouldn't restart.

I wheeled it back into the garage and noticed a little drip from one of the airbox drains. It's gas.

I pulled the filter and found the that the front portion of the airbox is full of gas! Full right to the bottom of the metal screen. WTF?

I pulled the spark plug and it's wet too. Now I'm guessing there is gas in the oil as well?

The only changes I made to the carb are the KLX needle so I'm thinking stuck float/float valve? The carb did sit dry for the winter.

Any thoughts? Any other things I should be looking at besides the float needle?

Oh, and the good news ...... even though it was a 1/2 ride I can already tell the suspension is incredible! Just sublime ..... can't wait to try it again.

I'm with you -- check the float . . . . . .

bad news, you have to.

good news, if that's what is wrong, easy peasy fix.

Yeah the float valve is easy enough on it's own but looks like I'll have to pull the airbox to drain it.

I'm also concerned that gas has gotten into the cylinder/engine oil so I'll have to flush the oil a few times.

Is there an overflow vent on the carb that I'm not seeing or is it just normal to fill the airbox with gas when it does overflow?
