Strage breakdown mistery resolved

Hi to airheads fans

a few days ago i write down a mystery about my 78 r100, that after 10 min of running very well it start to not rev past the idle rpm.
after checking the coils and other million other things and a large amount of beer money i discover that the main electrical wire that run from the battery was rotten inside and that was the problem.
that was the only thing i have not change in my last build up. so if you have not changed your electrical wire now is the time to do it.

well i can say I've had the same issue a few times. Ends up being rotten, corroed wires that actually break from fatigue more than corrosion, underneath shrink tubing, and always right behind the crimp, where the uneven stressing of individual strands is the greatest.

Italiano, glad you found the problem. I'm going into the garage to check my battery cables--maybe that's the root of my starting problems. Thanks, and again, congrats. Now get out and take a ride for the both of us.

Well found ...

This would turn off everything.. instrument (warning ) lights, headlight etc.

Why does it happen? The battery is a source of corrosion (liquid and gas) that can corrode the wires in that area, fully sealed batteries help.

Slap grease/vaseline/dielectric-grease over the +ve terminals and exposed part of the leads.
