I think long blocks generally do not come with covers or manifolds, so there'd be a bit of work to do to it before installing it. Fortunately, spinning a rod bearing doesn't usually trash the fuel injection or ignition systems.

Hodakaguy
perfectly stated.

i currently have a '07 Rubicon, '73 Super Beetle and my KLR all competing for attention, mods and upgrades. sadly, i only make enough money to pay my bills and take the family out to eat once or twice a month.....

I can mod the KLR for $50-$100 here and there. the Jeep... $100 minimum. the SB, i can practically rebuild for the cost of the complete lift for my Jeep. the good news is that i think i have the Jeep and KLR where i want them for now. hoping some mods will trickle towards the bug, now.

good luck with the search. its good that you can be patient.
all i have to say is.. wow. i can't tell you how awesome i would feel to have a 928 in my fleet. but, i've got an "original heritage 911".

Factory crate 24v VR6! Nothing super exciting but will get this thing on the road the fastest, most reliable way

Yes. Basically just a new one of the same thing. (Slight variation that this was slated for a Jetta 24v instead of the Eurovan. So there is one mounting tab different)

Any benefit of rebuilding your current engine and making some moolah, to offset the cost of the new longblock?

This picture is a perfect illustration of the packaging genius of the VR6, and how the Germans will keep working on something forever to prove they were right. Most companies would have said: "what's the point?"
