Riding Europe

This July I hope to ride England, Scotland, Ireland and Wales.

I live in Thailand and have both a Thai and Aussie Rider license.

My question is;

"Would it be legally possible for me to buy a 2nd hand bike when I arrive in London, use it to tour, then sell it prior to departure?"

No way could I afford to rent one for a month or two.

I believe that I would need to find a private address somewhere in England if the purchase/resell idea is a goer?

Thank you.

Check out Wheatwakers thread below, entitled "Motorcycling in Europe" for some options.

As far as I am aware an address is all you need for a foreigner to register a bike in the UK, the sticky thing is insurance with an Aussie licence but it is available, I think there is something about it here.

Thanks Mark.
Ironically, I attended the Horizons Unlimited meeting here in Chiang Mai only a couple of weeks ago, but I wasn't thinking of Europe at that time.

Just spotted this.
Yep, buying a bike here in Ireland is not a problem as long as you have an address (mine in this case) to register the bike in.
In the process of picking up bike number 5 over the weekend for another inmate from Australia.
No problem in either putting them in non EU citizen name, or getting insurance as long as the bike in registered in your name.
Let me know what kind of bike you want, be prepared to trust me with the funds/bike till you arrive and your all set.

In case you did not know, Ireland is the prettiest country in the EU and we need your spending money here ASAP. Our government went on a spending spree a few years back and now it's pay back time.

WW, making owning your own bike in Europe a reality :)
