Mendo NF Mill Fire VOLUNTEER DAY, 10am-4pm Saturday, 2/16/13

and 8am–5pm Part One, Class A Chainsaw S-212 Certification class

Mendocino National Forest (MNF) is holding its monthly forest rehab volunteer work party to address the aftermath of the Mill Fire. A completed volunteer agreement form is required to participate, if you haven’t submitted one previously. To obtain one, please contact Paige at: paigemakowski@fs.fed.us or 530-968-1328.

Mill Fire Volunteer Work Party
10am-4pm
Location: Davis Flat Campground
9.5 miles west of Stonyford on Road 18N03

BRING YOUR LUNCH and PLENTY TO DRINK
Rain or shine event, BRING APPROPRIATE APPAREL AND SUN PROTECTION
Vouchers for free camping Saturday night at Davis Flat Campground will be available to participants at the event.

Per MNF:
“Stonyford OHV personnel are seeking volunteers to assist with the rehab/volunteer days AS WELL AS maintaining the safety of the trails by removing fallen trees after storms or anytime of the year.”
“In order to operate a chainsaw within the National Forest, ALL volunteers must obtain a S-212 certification issued by the USFS…”

Part One, Chainsaw S-212 Certification class is held separately from the Volunteer Work Party and is a pre-requisite to the mandatory CPR/First Aid class and Part Two Class A Chainsaw S-212 Certification class to obtain chainsaw certification.
This class isn’t scheduled to occur again. MNF requests, “Please arrive early to settle in” and that if you aren’t interested in completing the CPR/First Aid certification class and Part Two class to obtain chainsaw certification and volunteer regularly, please do not sign up for, or attend, Part One. Seats are limited to the first 20 people who sign up.

Part One, Class A Chainsaw S-212 Certification class (classroom portion)
8am–5pm
Location: Hot Shot Office, Stonyford compound

Required safety gear: 8” leather boots, Gloves, Hard Hat, Face Shield or Protective Glasses, Chaps, Ear Protection
Requested gear: personal chainsaw
Per MNF: “We will have SOME spare safety gear and a few spare chainsaws to practice with.
Please provide yourself with lunch, snacks and beverages to get you through the day.”

If interested and able to devote the necessary time and effort, please reserve your place in Part One, CPR/First Aid and Part Two classes (see below) by contacting Paige at: paigemakowski@fs.fed.us or 530-968-1328.

Time TBA MANDATORY CPR/First Aid Certification class for those pursuing chainsaw certification. Pre-requisite: 2-16-13 Part One class. This class is not scheduled to occur again. Class will be maxed at 20 people. RSVP to Paige Makowski: paigemakowski@fs.fed.us or 530-963-1328. (No walk-ins accepted for chainsaw class.)

Sunday, March 17 – 8am-5pm Part Two, Class A Chainsaw S-212 Certification class. Pre-requisites: 2-16-13 Part One and 3-16-13 CPR/First Aid Certification class. Seats are limited to 12. RSVP to Paige Makowski: paigemakowski@fs.fed.us or 530-963-1328. (No walk-ins accepted for chainsaw class.)

Also from Mendo NF today:
"The main project for Saturday is building and installing barriers. The main focus area will be Little Stony Day Use. With Colusa County’s Annual Fishing Derby coming up in May we would like to have this area spruced up so we can reopen it to the public. (This does not include OHV trails.)

The 1st of the 3 part chainsaw certification series starts Saturday, here at the compound in Stonyford @ 0800. The remaining 2 portions of the certification will follow on March 16 & tentatively on April 20th. There are still spots available, please reply to sign up!": paigemakowski@fs.fed.us or 530-968-1328.
