V-Duck, that looks like it was a close shave! Hope you can pull it together before the departure date. I've taken the time off so I'll be going regardless.

As far as the Sumpter Dredge it's a cool place but I can take it or leave it since I've been there a couple of times in recent years with the SFRC boys out of Portland on their Gold Rush ride.

My plan is to ride down to Springfield in the morning like I did last year.

hey Kevin; Let's go camp out at West's place and see what we can find in his trash.

Sounds good, Doug. Thanks!

That would be a VERY different sort of ride. Yep, could be fun, but not exactly what we had in mind. I'll keep it in mind as Plan B.

The bike goes in to the shop today so the damage can be assessed. More to come...

V-Duck Sorry to hear about your incident, hope the shop had good news for you today.
I'm going to skip slabing it down to Springfield and just plan on hooking up with you guys in Prineville. It's less then two hours from my place to Prineville so I can sleep in. What is your best guess for a time you will be rolling through there?

If all goes according to plan, we'll hit Prineville between 12:30 and 1:00. The Chevron station in the middle of town is a good meetup location.

Got the bike into the shop yesterday afternoon. Haven't heard a time estimate yet...

However, I'm working on a Plan B involving fewer miles, way more dirt and gravel. Something more oriented to a dual sport bike. I do not relish hours of highway riding on my DRZ...

Some weirdos think riding around the state on sub-500cc bikes is a lot of fun. To me, that's more of something to endure rather than enjoy...

More as I know it, stay tuned.

I have no problem with a lot more dirt and a smaller bike if it goes that way. I don't mind riding the dirt bike all day as long as it's mostly on dirt.
My 640 is pure hell on the blacktop after a very short time.
I'm having a hard time giving up on not going to see the Leslie Gulch area, it's been on my list for a while now.

I can go either way. Got a little WR250R that could be set-up for a dirtier ride. 200+ mile days aren't nearly as fun as the BMW though, nor as "Spiritied" a pace on pavement. Prefer the Plan A route though as there were some of those Eastern area's I've not seen before, but willing to see what route you come up with still.

Either way I WILL be riding a motorcycle SOMEWHERE east on these dates and CAMPING.

That's the spirit!

I, too, prefer Plan A. I especially want to get back to Leslie Gulch, which Is further than I really want to go on my smaller bike. In general, here's what I'm thinking for Plan B, subject to big changes. Get out your Benchmark map...

Thursday:
  • Hwy 58 from Springtucky, over Willamette Pass.
  • Crescent cutoff to (waddya know!) Crescent.
  • Up hwy 97 a few miles to a gravel road heading east, can't remember the road number at the moment. Puts us on hwy 31 near Hole in the Ground
  • Gravel to said Hole, Fort Rock, Crack in the Ground, and other interesting sites in the Fort Rock/Christmas Valley area.
  • Spend the night at Green Mountain lookout.
Friday:
  • East out of Christmas Lake to another gravel BLM road (I can't remember the number) south to hwy 395
  • South on Hogback road to Plush for fuel (?) and food, then up to Hart Mountain Hot Springs for the night
Saturday:
  • Back to Plush and west to Lakeview for fuel, etc.
  • Hop on OBDR route 5 and then Route 2 to Chemult, and perhaps points beyond. This is where it gets a bit unpredictable due to the possibility of snow still on the ground...
  • Spend the night somewhere along Route 5 or 2. Mebbe Thompson Reservoir...? The campgrounds in this area were supposed to have opened May 1
Sunday: head for home...

So trash all of the above. Oldmonkeybut and Rideabout advise against a couple of the "gravel" stretches. Turns out they're more like talcum powder. Definitely to be avoided...

OMB has agreed to do some Plan B route consulting, so stay tuned for more on that. A more northerly stretch on the first day may be in the cards...

No update on the bike.

what a direction is,, a plan is not,,destination planning,,sleep late,,ride fast,,the general plan!

That's what I'm talkin' about.....
Now that's ^^^^ MY kind of plan !

Except the sleep late part.
I can't sleep late when there's exploring to be done.
But I can sure quit early when there's *camping* to be done
