Well.... If you intend to ride with us you'll save money by changing those tires to something more dirt worthy. My bike had brand new street tires on her when I got her & I did more damage to my bike trying to save money by using up the old tires before dropping the cash on a proper off road tire.

At 3:04 I wipe out for no reason, badly scratching & denting my formerly presteen tank. It sucked but, gave me the excuse to buy the IMS 6.6 gal. tank I always wanted anyway. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fiJM...nofeather=True

My new D-606 I've got up front hasn't washed out once...... So far.

Tire choice is about compromise. Every tire is great, and sucks, depending on where you are.

That's where you make your decision.

Basically, what sucks worse... crashing in mud? or not dragging the pegs?

Yeah I'm probably going to go with something a little more street oriented than the 606 for now since most of my riding is paved or semi paved. I take the 250 when I want to do more serious offroad. Maybe get something like the continental escape. Any suggestions?? It doesn't have to be a very aggressive tire, just something that will handle gravel reasonably well and that I can still lean over on the asphalt.

I was quite happy with my Shinko 705s for that kind of riding.... sucked in the mud, but not bad at all on gravel/smoother dirt when dry.

Troy, you are running the 244 on the DRZ. That's what I have on the KLR now, they are MUCH better in mud than the 705s. The 705 is what I had on the KLR when we rode at LBL in January. I promptly pulled the 705 off and ordered some 244s.

KJD, you might like the 244 also. I think it's a pretty darn good all-around tire. They wear a bit faster than the 705s and aren't quite as nice on the road, but still a great tire.

I'm probably gonna put a set of 244's on my DRZ for the LBL weekend. I'm tired of not riding to the meeting spots because I "don't want to ride the knobs off on flat, straight roads". I figure I'll be able to wear my current knobbies out at Loretta Lynn's and have set of 244's ready to go on ASAP.

As for today, I have the SM setup on and I'm fixin' ta head out towards Gainesboro.

There will be a scavenger hunt, and we will need help distributing the "Objects of Desire" (the items we will be collecting Saturday). If you are coming in Friday, and have time, we will send you out with a couple of packets to plant, and return with the GPS Coordinates for Saturdays hunt.

There are also cool ideas for Saturday PM, in addition to the ride talk, bench racing, crash excuses, and general telling of lies...er.., I mean, sharing of stories. Otherwise known as " ing"

I would like to find out how many are planning on hitting the Turkey Bay Offroad area. I want to be able to give them an idea of how many people are interested in riding there, and ask for a special deal.

Unless it's muddy, pretty much ANY tire will do. Even if it's muddy, I plan on riding a big bike with 90% Street tires.

It's looking good, I'm getting fired up!

I was thinking about mentioning the MidTN@LBL.ride over on KLR650.net but, I wanted to see if it was cool with you guys or if we should keep it an "ADVrider" only event. I know there's a 70 rider limit & I'm not sure if I'd piss off Glenn by drawing attention to this site. I agree with alot of his beliefs but, it seems he gets angry over little things.

I got banned for posting a joke over there. Funny how I don't miss that place. I kinda think there will be a big turnout at LBL...

I'll let Troy weigh in on that one. I'm more than fine with it, but Troy had mentioned wanting to keep it smaller for our first run.

I think that right now, there are probably going to be 25-30 people in attendance.
