Southern Marylanders Asked to Provide Recreation Information

The Maryland Department of Natural Resources (DNR) is asking citizens ─ especially those in Anne Arundel, Calvert, Charles, Prince Georges and St. Mary’s counties ─ for their input on State outdoor recreation facilities and services in Southern Maryland.
This recreation evaluation is the first step in a comprehensive statewide effort to enhance existing recreation areas in Maryland, these include; State parks, forests, wildlife areas and trails.
DNR will ask participants to assess the extent to which outdoor recreation facilities, programs and services meet the needs of the community and identify future demand and need. This is the first of four regional stakeholder sessions DNR will hold across the State in February and March 2013.
The public input will help guide the update of the Maryland Land Preservation and Recreation Plan, which will serve as a roadmap for future State outdoor recreation facilities and services.
The Department has hired a nationally-known parks and recreation management consulting firm, GreenPlay, LLC, to oversee the Recreation Component of this planning process.

BTW, I am the OHV rep on the MD 5-year recreation and trails committee. For the first time in recent history, Maryland recognizes the need of OHV owners/riders/drivers and will be including us in the plan.

I need your support to show our demand for access to OHV trails. This includes 4x4 trucks, ATVs, UTVs, bikes, snowmachines, etc.

I wish you all the absolute best luck. We're suffering from a huge attack on access to forrest service roads and trails here in the Smokies and Blue Ridge Mtns. Access is the biggest challenge to our sport right now. I hope you have a huge turn out!

Um, I think you stormed the troops! As side from my rogue horsie friend, a few shooters, a few boaters, you guys were the belles of the ball!

Joints4Sale, Blaster, MotoRanch and I had more fun than we probably should have at a state-event.

Although I think it PAINS Maryland to recongnize ORV, it apparent that the time to voice is NOW ! Simply said, we need to get the upcoming survey KNOWN and filled for ORV.

I have been thinking more about this. Would you mind if I started a spin off thread, that starts a grass roots effort? I was thinking a thread title something like: "Marylanders: OHV Decisions need your Grass Roots efforts!" I'd recommend taking the first few posts so you can keep links to the pertinent info from getting lost in later pages of discussion.

Additionally, I was toying with doing the following:

--Create a flyer and dropping it off at the local MC stores bulletin boards with the upcoming survey and encourage participation. I will also provide it as a link for others to do the same for their neighboorhood dealers
--Talking to manager/owner at the dirt bike dealers and see if they would pitch in (money/time/advertise the DNR on their scroll signs?)
--Calling the AMA and atleast seeing if for next months Magazine they could highlight the DNR website for the upcoming survey for the "Maryland in legistlature section"
--Also seeing if the AMA could provide us any assistance
--Also, anyone know the guy that kept talking about his "site plans". Does he need help (fund raising, sweat equity, etc?)
--Reach out to the BMW MOA magazine (letter to editor)
--Reach out to local BMW BMW group

Thoughts?

PS Did anyone write down the next series of talking sessions? I think they were GreenRidge (Mar 5) and Eastern Shore and Garrett Counties (Mar 6)

Press on! I keep the President of the Maryland Dealers Assoc informed and he has sent out emails but lobbying your local dealer and putting up fliers is GREAT!
