Coming to London

I'll be in London late this month with my family doing the whole family tourist deal for about 10 days. I will not have the opportunity to ride, and know that I can only take so much of the traditional tourist stuff. What should I not miss that is related to motorcycles? The Ace Cafe? Any great moto shops? A cool Vespa shop? I do need a textile jacket, were should I shop for that? How about a great motorcycle pub?
Any and all advice and hints are greatly appreciated.
Thanks,

Greg....I'm not spamming here, but if you ask the same question on DSUK then you'll get all the info you need as there's a lot of London based guys there.

They've already looked after LC4Pilot when he came over recently so they'll be glad to welcome you.

The downside is that they're all twats like Buckster.

Don't miss the Ace Cafe

I don't know what it is about the Ace, but it does feel special (to me anyway).

See our pics from the last trip:

Chelsea Bridge

I don't know much about it, but I do know that there's also a biking get-together every Friday night at Chelsea Bridge.

I'm sure you already know that there is some disruption to the Underground service following yesterday's grim events, but the Bakerloo line, that runs to Stonebridge Park (best for the Ace), is running near normally I think.

I don't know whether you are also interested in aviation, but the Hendon RAF Museum isn't all that far from the Ace Cafe (though not walking distance). It is a very good museum if that sort of thing interests you - and it's free! See http://www.rafmuseum.org.uk/london/index.cfm

Actually an American friend of ours was in the UK last year for the Royal International Air Tattoo and we took him to both the Ace Cafe and Hendon. We all had a great day.

Yes. The exchange rate is killing me all the way 'round.

But even if I don't buy one there, I'd at least like to see and try on a Rukka before attempting to buy one sight unseen over the internet.

Gregg,
There's a store called Infinity that stock Rukka and they have two central london locations, one in High Holborn (near the British Museum) and one in Great Portland Street ( north of Oxford Street). I've found them to have good staff who are interested in what they sell.

Other that that there's the Ace, but you know all about that, check out the website for what's on there. Oh, and drink plenty of London Pride.

Have a great time, sorry about the exchange rate!

Cheers

Would you by any chance know of a C. London based motorcycle accessories shop which has a good selection of two stroke oils?

Gregg,

I couldn't think of a more expensive place to do your shopping...

If you are after meeting some bikers, you can check
this forum for the London-based GSers regular meetings.

Apart from that, enjoy your stay - it's a great place!

Thanks for this. I really want to at least drool on a Rukka jacket as they are not available for viewing in my area. I'm staying in Kensington so I think the High Holborn store is close.
Thanks,

Thanks,
Not that close, to be honest! But there's plenty to do around Holborn, just watch out 'cos the Piccadilly Line's still shut after the bomb in the tunnel.
The British Museum's worth a visit (just don't eat in the restaurant - DAMHIK!) and a good cheap (by London's standards) noodle or ramen lunch can be had in Wagamama on Streatham Street nearby.
Enjoy your visit, it's a great place.

Cheers

Thanks everybody...

...we're getting excited now, two more days. My sixteen year old daughter is acting like she'd rather be anywhere than on vacation with her dorky parents and goofy thirteen year old brother, but she'll come around.
Cheers
