KTM or Husqvarna

So I am looking to purchase a bike and I have been looking at KTM 400, 450 exc and a 09 Husqarna TE250. They are all street legal for CA and I'm 5'9 170lbs riding mostly forest service roads, trails, some single track and using road to get to trails and connect trails.

I have an '07 EXC450, (my 3rd EXC450) and think the 400/450 KTM's would be ideal for what you want to do. I can't speak to the Husky as I've never ridden the TE250. The 250 may be a bit weak if you have to do much at all in terms of connecting roads. Having a good dealer nearby may be something to consider. I find the KTM 450's to be a great compromise between the 400 and 525's. A good "do it all" bike.

The 250 doesn't have the reserve power you sometimes need to get out of
a "situation" on a paved road.


The 450 is the best pick by far for what you say you want to do. A 2007 KTM 450
EXC is the best bike for the job, unless you want to ride desert a lot in which case
a 525 might be preferable.

Buy the nicest 450 EXC you can find and make sure it is a 2007 model, because the
2007 model year is the only RFS engine bike which came from the factory as street
legal.

Ever ride one? Crack the throttle at 40 to 50 mph & it takes off off pretty damn hard & fast to well over 70 mph
Not what I'd use for interstate work. But plenty of power & feel's very lightweight & flickable on the trails.
