More Thoughts for Conway hotels

Done some more picking at the Conway hotel pricing issue. And while there are many properties, there seems to be somewhat limited room availability. Conway averages $150.

I've also moved played with triangulating actual town by 20-30 miles. To the east is the intersection of I-93 (North Woodstock) and to the north is Gorham. All locations have 5-10 hotels, but the prices don't seem to vary more than $25-45.

The good news is I doubt we'll be homeless...the bad news is I just don't think is will be a cheap night unless we luck into a nice motel.

we could do Newburgh to Rutland to Lincoln and stay at the Kancamagus Lodge (standard room 109) and then do the K highway in the AM and on to Mt Washington and Jackman

Cost data update

Updated some cost data in post #2, unfortunately not in our favor, I will keep updating this as we get better data.

I also added a countdown timer to post #1 so we can push off getting stuff done until the last possible moment....

Great timing for your planning thread. I'm planning on doing the Trans Taiga solo (maybe with another rider) in early June of this year. It's only tentative at this point, but I'm hopeful I'll be able to squeeze in the time off to do it. I'll be following this thread closely, as it seems that you guys do WAY more planning than I do... Might do me good to leach off of the info you guys are gathering!

I wouldn't even consider attempting this ride without camping gear. It's extremely remote and you just never know what each day will have in store. You could easily find yourself stuck many miles from the nearest outfitter if you had a breakdown, wreck, etc. Just my two cents, from someone who's never been on that road! :)

We'll end the day where the mood strikes us, but likely between Scranton, PA and Albany, NY.
Centralia is my old stomping ground! I used to trailer my four wheeler up there a couple times a week to ride the trails around the area when I lived closer (about 20 minutes away). The town itself is pretty cool to see, but don't get your hopes up too much. The internet has a way of over-hyping the place. When you guys get there, besides seeing the obligatory areas where smoke is coming out of the ground, make sure to scoot through the dirt mounds 'blocking off' a couple-mile section of the old highway. It was damaged due to the fire underneath it and has a pretty cool post-apocalyptic feel to it.

Once the time comes, I could meet you guys in Centralia or further north (as I live right along your route on the way up through Scranton) and give you guys any advice on the Trans Taiga road, since by that time I would have recently ridden it. Let me know.

With stock gears, I made 331 miles from Deer Lake, Newfoundland via Trailway through Red Indian Lake to Burgeo with no additional gas. This is largely due to the much lower RPMs on gravel and the mileage goes up quite significantly.

However, I have changed the front sprocket down 1 tooth since Newfoundland. However, I would imagine that 2 additional gallons would be more than ample to make the TT?

Additionally, it seems that some folks indicate they may be gas at the Trans Taiga at KM 666 seasonally?
Here's some contact information I found for the Air Saguenay float plane base:

Welcome to the thread max! We do tend to do a lot of planning as we usually have limited time and resources and want to get the most out of it. Thanks for the information, feel free to share anything you find out in the thread.

This might be an interesting place to visit in ME as it is "not that far" off the road to Jackman

This is a crash site of a B52 bomber just outside of Greenville, Maine near Elephant Mountain. Take the Lily Bay Road out of Greenville turn right onto the Scammon Road go up the hill and take a left just before Sawyer Pond. After several miles you will come to Upper and Lower Wilson Ponds. Look for the yellow B52 Bomber Crash Signs. Park at: N:45.31.758
W:69.25.950
The Crash Site is at: N:45.31.680 W:69.26.077

finally got my first piece of kit purchased specifically for this ride (in anticipation of having to camp at some point) - the Aerostich luxury cot.
Gave up the sleeping on the ground for my 60th birthday.

Go out soon and give it a test then post your evaluation. Might need to get one myself!

Another potential stop...

... on the way home. Kinzua Bridge State Park in PA. When it was built the bridge was allegedly the tallest bridge in the world. Partially destroyed by a tornado the remaining structure has been made into a pedestrian walkway.
