Motorcycle Fatality in Grand Junction
Drove past a bad wreck this morning, looked to be a XR with a large tank. Very sad.

I find it disturbing that most if not all the news reporting on motorcycle accidents feel the need to inform about the wearing of helmet. I have never understood this.

Why? It's a simple statement of fact, it's not an editorial comment. I frequently read about Auto accidents where they mention that driver was ejected and wasn't wearing a seatbelt. I don't see the difference. Immediately after an accident there are precious few known facts available for the reporter to use so I can't blame them for using what they can.

What they missed in the report is the time of day and lighting.
Too many Colorado car drivers use "stealth mode" at dusk and dawn. I have seen cars driving when it is nearly pitch dark with no lights in Colorado. Strange they missed that detail but got his helmet. Must be their agenda!

Bummer.
As far as the helmet, to expand a bit on what Garp said, they talk about the helmet because it is viewed as a safety device. Just like seatbelts. What I don't understand is what good a helmet will do if hit by a car or truck when on a bike. As far as stealth mode cars, yeah....stupid drivers is the cause. Can't tell you how many times I've driven in to work in the fog and people won't have their lights on. They must think the lights are only there to help them see. Its especially annoying when they are in a white vehicle. Sunrise is another situation. I come in to town from the east and always run my lights when its near sunrise cuz the guys going east are being blinded by the sun and can't see squat. I've got the sun behind me and I can see great, but not them. Same deal going home. Natural selection I guess, but their stupidity risks others' lives.

Yeah, because everyone has an agenda, and they're all out to get us, or maybe just to get you.

Might as well state the rider was wearing body armour, a jacket, or boots as its all safety equipment. It has no bearing on what happened in the accident. This is why I feel like you state, they use whatever they can for story filler.

My condolences for your/everyones loss.
Please don't hold a grudge for the postings here - humor to one is almost always an insult to another. This is learned behavior - mostly from our political system - where such tactics are employed everyday through media and gov't outlets. YMMV, My condolences are sincere. |

Sorry Jim and I'm guessing other friends in G.J. I'm really sorry that you had to read it here after these 2 dickheads think there is humor in this.
