Meat Cove Campground

We rode into Meat Cove last summer for lunch. The crab shack wasn't open. Two young ladies were operating a food cart. There was a limited menu but the crab legs were excellent.

It is a very beautiful spot but you need to be prepared for the weather. One of our group asked - Wasn't there a porch on the crab shack? Yes they replied, but it blew off - twice, so we didn't replace it.

The road in is about 25 km - half paved, half gravel. I think there is a small grocery store along the way.

Have a great ride.

Paul

As Kevin G mentioned earlier the Hideaway Campground and Oyster market is the halfway point on the Cabot Trail and 30 minutes to Neils Harbour. This is where Dave and jrcool stayed in 2010 after a lunch stop in Meat Cove. As I remember this is where they had a lobster only dinner on the cheap. And they take reservations. This is 30 minutes to where we are staying at Rocky Bay Cottages Inhonish. Just a thought!

Looks like many of us will be trying our luck at Meat Cove Campground arriving July 4th.

For those that want more definite lodging plans or perhaps cabins in closer proximity to food etc. you can book a spot at the Hideaway Campground and Oyster Market http://www.campingcapebreton.com/

I spoke to them today and they do have space on the 3rd, 4th and 5th as of today.

Would it be OK for a Newf to show up to take your place? I promise to have a good ride on your behalf. I don't want to impose but I do wish to pay my respects.

I was thinking the same thing Murph.

I have most of the week off so I thought it would be a nice gesture and maybe meet some people.

I'm guessing a number of people heading that direction are already on the road and may not comment, but its safe to say that any gathering of friends (known or unknown) in Dave's honor would be inclusive and welcome additional riders paying respect.
I wish I were able to attend. Ride safe.

Well spoken Ferd, I agree wholeheartedly.
I only wish that I could attend as well, Dave was such a great guy.

Good afternoon all and a happy Canada day to you!

Just the same as many, I as well was unable to attend the memorial on the East Coast.. There will be a gathering of a few of us on friday july5th here At the rhododendron wine therapy center For a potluck barbecue followed by a fire burning into the evening.. I'd like to extend that invitation to any and all would like to join in with us to pay homage over a few drinks to toast our friend drcool....
There is plenty of floor space and a couple couches and lots of green grass for those who want to tent it.. And don't forget your favorite lawnchair and whatever you like to beverage on for the evening....
I'll provide the burgers and you guys can potluck the rest...

Shoot me a PM if you'd like to attend and what you'd like to bring as well as your email address and we can get this organized through email..

Hijack over.....
