I support more traffic enforcement, and the hiring of specific Traffic Enforcement officers ( a la VPD) as usually in the case of motorcyclists, cyclists and pedestrians, we have the most to lose if someone decides to drive aggressively, distracted, fast, through an intersection, etc. knowing there are no repercussions. Fines would more than pay to hire these officers. I have no problem with cops hiding out behind signs etc. with a radar gun. Speeding is a personal choice.

Only 1 in 4 traffic camera infractions is ever cited. Seeing as these are the most dangerous spots for all involved, why not prosecute all infractions? To me this is like letting three out of four assaults go unpunished because the government doesn't want to be seen as "mean".

Gosh, they're not imposing fines on 75% of intersection cameras?? Now there's an utterly classic government fumble.

IMO, every lighted intersection in BC should have a red light camera, and 100% of offences should be billed out. Cash grab, yeah, so? At least it's a punishing system, in a world of increasing lack of responsibility.

Agree! A lot of the bleating about "cash grab" is probably coming from "special" people. You know the ones, the ones the rules don't apply to. Forget fines, crush their cars/trucks.

Lifetime driving bans for repeat idjits. Caught driving after that: lifetime on the prison farm digging in the dirt.

Most people should NOT be driving, they aren't capable of it.

I like the idea of a perpetual revenue feed from those who do not take a true safety law into consideration. Anything to offset the taxes I have to pay, I'm all for it.

Why is it that ICBC charges me for the months that I don't insure my bike? When I go to insure the bike for 9 months of the year there's a "surcharge" for not buying a full 12 months worth of insurance. That's akin to walking into Walmart and not buying anything, only to be stopped and the exit and told "sorry, you didn't buy anything and so we're gonna have to charge you" . That really pisses me off ! Only the government can get away with charging for not buying something.

Interseting perspective, never looked at it this way.

I'd like to point out to you that when you decide to insure a vehicle for a short term basis, or month to month, that you are not being forced to do so. It is entirely your option to insure the bike a full year, month to month, or for a portion of the year. Vehicle operation in Western society is a priveledge, not a right, and one could argue that the associated mandatory insurance is also a priveledge, as well as how long you decide your riding season is. Just as you point how silly it would be if Walmart mandated a purchase for entering their front door, I find it just as hard to declare your purchase of a partial year insurance over a full year option to be a forced action by any insurance company.
Not defending ICBC at all, I've always gotten mad at the rates we are charged compared to other jurisdictions. Never mind the huge subject of the provincial government using ICBC as a cash cow, filtering off fruits of excessive policy charges back into general revenue, which is in fact another form of tax. But being able to purchase smaller packages of insurance as an option is something NOT enjoyed from ANY of the other optional insurance companies.
If you actually think this through, it can easily be argued that ICBC takes on an added cost to offer smaller packages of insurance, as they must pay their autoplan agents a fee for each policy written out, so the added cost of this, like any business which decides it wants to stay in business, fowards the cost to their customers.

Why is ICBC taking on an added cost? If your arguement holds true, why doesn't the Autoplan agent simply charge me a documentation fee every time I walk through the door and keep ICBC out of it? I used to insure motorcycles in the Yukon Territory for 6 months at a time with private insurance companies. There was never any penalty for short term policies.

It's like a car dealership charging you a "documentation fee" for buying a vehicle. If you want to sell me a car, then do the paperwork, otherwise screw you, I'm going to a dealer that will. BTW, I've never paid a documentation fee when purchasing a new vehicle.

I guess this nonsense is just another byproduct of living in a socialist province where the government wants to do everything for you. In my view, the government has no business being in the business of selling insurance.

3 more years and I can get the hell out of this socialist hell hole.
