Day 12 reprise; After gassing up in Blue Lake, we set off on Maple Creek Rd, a sweet, twisted piece of pavement that runs parallel to the Mad River. John and I regroup when the route turned back to dirt by Kneeland Airport. Frank & John decide they need some vacation in this vacation, and head for Shelter Cove. John and I proceed on the route and found ourselves immersed in a fantastic landscape.
Showers Pass Rd was indeed a jewel, and I was thankful Tony Hugel had routed us this way. bemiiten screwed with this post 02-17-2013 at 01:58 PM |

John and I grab lunch in Rio Dell, Then head East on Bear River Ridge Rd, a fast dirt road that teased us with some far off glimpses of the pacific.
We continued on to the obligatory Mattole Rd followed by a trip out to Windy Point. A trip over Saddle Mountain in the Kings Range continues the party and then it’s off to the Inn of The Lost Coast , Where we would cap it off with a soak in hot tub overlooking shelter cove. bemiiten screwed with this post 02-17-2013 at 05:01 PM |

Thanks for the taking us along DP! Shelter Cove looked kinda freaky and reminds me of a fictional town from a favorite author. Christopher Moore writes about some crazy residents and their antics in the costal California town of Pine Cove. Practical Demonkeeping and The Lust Lizard of Melancholy Cove two highly entertaining reads if you're interested.

Lost Coast. That is a 'back yard' ride for me. Seems like I forget how beautiful this part of the country is, until someone seeing it from a fresh point of view... reminds me to stop and really look around.
It is a pretty amazing place to live.
