1190 or 990 Baja?

Thinking about getting a 990 Baja rather than an 1190. Would this be nuts?

If you lived in Europe, you might be nuts. Since we're getting the 1190 next month it might not be a good idea to get the 'old model'. Also, in many areas, there are very very few possibilities to use dirt or gravel roads. So as I'm doing 99% street riding I opted for the 1190.

Then again if you like the old model's off-road abilities, and you could actually exploit those, or you just like the styling and the lower price point of the 990, by all means go for it. Probably better than waiting a year, as I understand the U.S. won't get the 1190 for a while.

You can't buy an 1190 in the US so why the question? If you could make the choice right now, consider what you want to use the machine to do and make your choice. If you're looking for GS-esk riding, the 1190 is the machine. If you wanna ride off road, the 990 is your choice.

990

I have owned two 950's, I know more than I should about these bikes. I thought I would wait for the 1190,about to decide differently. I love the new Baja.

Unless you can get it for some deep, ridiculous, less-than-dealer cost discount I wouldn't cause you're gonna eat that money when the new bike does come here next year.

Find a left over 2012, they may go on sale next month. When the new 1190's come out in 2014, the smaller, lighter 990's may be in demand. The 950's were in more of a demand when the 990's came out. Then decide if you can live with only 115 hp and really need 150 hp.

As the 1190R has not even been tested yet I don't see how you can come up with that conclusion,

If you want a good deal on a 990 then this will be the year to get one,
If you want better performance, brakes, handling then wait :-P
