asteriods
http://news.nationalpost.com/2013/02...rth-next-week/
so, will there be a reaction to the earth from the asteriod or just another light in the sky going by? |

The reaction (gravitational pull) will be so small that it will be insignificant. The moon has greater pull, and you see how much the tides rise because of it. It is quite possible it could take out a GPS satellite, though, since it is within their orbit.
One of these days, we will be hit by an asteroid. Its happened before and will happen again. It always amazes me that people don't care. For the amount of money we spend trying to prevent global temperatures from rising a couple of degrees, we could install a system to deflect them. If a big one hits, it could send us into an ice age as the dust clouds block out the sun for a few centuries. Oh well. The Earth will reinvent itself once again... |

Bill Nye the science guy was on tv trying to explain how close it was going to be. He kept saying if the asteroid was just 15 minutes later we would get hit. The interviewers just would not understand that and he was getting really frustrated. He then started talking about how small a change it would take to adjust the trajectory of an incoming object and the cut him off. They then interviewed one of the hollyweird celebs for way to long who didn't have anything to say.
