Are stock GSA shocks an upgrade for a GS?

I'm nearing 100K miles on my Y2K 1150GS, and although my shocks aren't leaking and still seem to perform well, I think it's becoming time for an upgrade. I could probably swing the dough for a used and rebuilt set of Ohlins or Wilbers, but they go quick whenever they come up on the flea market.

I was thinking if I could locate a low-mile set of GSA shocks they might be a less expensive alternatve, as long as they would be considered an improvement over what I have, and they would fit my bike.

Any relevant thoughts?

I believe I have read that they are not only about an inch taller, they also have an additional inch of travel. Beyond that, no other improvements such as shaft size, etc.

Im sure others will correct me if I am wrong.
