As I recall, Cycle World's Peter Egan said the minimum / optimum number of bikes an enthusiast ought to have is FIVE - then went on to justify his assertion. Citing this renowned expert in the field, however, rarely (actually never) convinces Guanowife......
It helps that even collectively, my bikes aren't worth all that much. And since her daily driver is a noisy 17yr old Toyota pushing 200K, It'd be tough to justify adding a $25K K1600GT or a more reliable version of my '04 950ADV to the stable. But I'm working' it.......

Strictly speaking the Adv is no street bike, it is for off road use. Mount nobbies if she does not buy it. One down.
Also the two KTM's are too uncomfortable for riding two-up, so you'll need the Kwak to ride with her (hope she is pillion or the argument falls). Two down. You'll need the SM for solo riding on street (as the Adv is for off road). Problem solved. If not, get her to get a license and give her the Kwak. Soon she'll be lusting after the SM. Give her that and upgrade to the new 1290 Super Duke. Good luck :-) OT.

I fired up all three bikes today. The 300 got the new top end with a high compression head. Holy shit but it goes when it gets on the pipe! Every time I start thinking I should replace two bikes with one, I ride each one and realize how much fun each of them is in its own particular way.

You're just living in the wrong state. It's been a long time since I've had a paddle tire, but I'm going to get one for the 300 and take a trip to some big dunes in Utah. That motor just begs to be pinned, and you can't do it anywhere else for more than a few seconds.

Mcmann, the fact that you are retired and still out their 'living' and not sitting in front of a box watching daytime TV and eating cookies while waiting to die, answers your question. Anything that keeps you out there, thinking, doing stuff, enjoying life is easily justified.
Hell, how else am I going to justify $2G on panniers and farkles for the one trip per year I have the time to do! Don't underestimate the benefits to your sanity!
