Cat tracks adv ride sun 17th feb 2013 brisbane, mt sylvia, cunninghams gap

CAT TRACKS ADVENTURE RIDE
BRISBANE MT SYLVIA CUNNINGHAMS GAP, ROSEVALE
SUNDAY 17TH FEB 2013

Meeting 7.15AM for 7.30AM start at Caltex servo in Kenmore (located here)

Before coming on any Snail Trail or Caterpillar Tracks ride ride you must read and agree to the disclaimer here. These are informal social rides with no central organiser or any person taking responsibility for others, and you come on these rides at your risk. You'll need a backup plan for any breakdowns, make sure someone can collect you and/or your bike if needed and bring at least a basic toolkit.

Please read about our corner-making system and general guidelines for the ride here, and a general guide to safety gear here.

Still in a ride-organising mood so here goes again. This is a ride for the bigger bikes. As much dirt road as possible but maybe 50% bitumen back roads and we'll be sitting on 100km/h every time we hit bitumen so it's not too late a finish. For those fairly new to Snail Trails, if a ride demands a moderate level of riding experience we started calling them Caterpillar Tracks, or Cat Tracks for short.

Most of the roads are fairly easy but we'll be doing a good (but legal) pace to finish before dark. Plus there will be some technical bits that could be slippery and rutted if it's raining. If you are a very experienced rider you should be fine on a 1000cc+ adv bike. But a piece of cake on mid-sized bikes if you are reasonably experienced. It won't be a ride for anyone quite new to dirt or adventure riding, sorry.

Plenty of fuel stops along the way. I've only got a 15 litre tank on the adventurised SV650 so everyone should be fine for fuel stops. Rough plan is Mt Crosby, Laidley, Mt Sylvia, Haldon, Cunninghams Gap, Rosevale, Willowbank. Probably around 400km all up, finish up mid arvo hopefully.

Check this thread early Sunday before heading off to see if it is still on or cancelled due to weather or other stuff.

posted the gps file for this ride on trans australia tracks here.
it's called "Brisbane Laidley Haldon Cunninghams Gap Rosewood Swanbank 380km".

Would love to come on this one but I'm working Sunday.

I did the Condamine Gorge with TeamMoto in December, was a great ride!

Have fun everyone.

spicers gap

He B1

Supposed to be going camping this weekend, but if that falls through, I may join in.

Have you ever had a crack at Spicers Gap, instead of Cunninghams gap? Have been trying to tie it into a ride for ages but never seem to. Only reason is that after all the road works on Cunninghams they have taken out most of the good parts.

Cheers
Mark

apparently you used to be able to get through spicers gap but a while back it was closed to vehicles and turned into a walking track, but bicycles are allowed too. it's a bummer as the dirt road up to that point is great so you just have to slab it along the bitumen instead. at least there are great views through there.

I can't make it because of other commitments but you guys and girls will have a blast. The area around Rosevale is really nice (I normally ride out there by myself) - thery're currently doing some road works on the area north of Rosevale, but you should be right on the weekend

Have a good one

minor change to the route, mt sylvia rd is closed after the flooding. if it doesn't reopen by the weekend we'll take gatton-clifton rd instead,

just means a few more km of tar but found some new dirt roads to explore too if we go that way.

nicky webster from the gold coast is coming up with his beemer for the ride too. should be fun, there are some great views and plenty of dirt roads out that way to check out. plus we'll be bumping along between farmers paddocks here and there just to keep it varied.

McAdoo, are you still a definite? got another guy who PMed and said he was coming up from the coast, checking in to see if he is still a definite.

if anyone else is thinking of coming then check this thread first thing tomorrow morning to make sure it's all systems go and we are still meeting at kenmore.

if the weather is similar to today it should be great riding. there were just scattered showers in glasshouse mountains today and we had a ball, no dust and nice loamy soil. just take the wet weather gear in case it's more than just the odd light shower.

no worries, see you at kenmore. weather looking good, just the odd scattered shower. racca or anyone else, let me know if you'll be there, otherwise we'll just take off from kenmore early.
