12v horn on 6v bike-how loud?

I can buy a 12v horn for far less ($1.95 compared to lots more-like $15-30) but don't have a horn or battery to "experiment"-how loud is a small, vintage style, 12v Honda horn on 6v battery?

It probably will not work at all. However,an old guy told me once that he wired up an old 6 volt horn to a 12V battery and it was much louder than original. No guarantees on the accuracy of my statements...

Hook up a 12V lamp to your 6V battery and you'll get an idea.
It will be 1/4 the power.

Since the proper 6V horn isn't going to be loud enough anyway I wouldn't bother trying a 12V.
My guess is that it would make a clicking noise and nothing more.

I did that(6vhorn/12vpower) & it made the same pathetic sound the little vintage horns make. I was holding off on purchase of a 6v battery until I get the project further along so don't have a 6v power source now.

Do you really need a horn?

Well, my 1A 6/12V battery charger did nothing to my 12V Bosch horn.

I gave the 6A 6/12V charger away to someone in need.I should have kept it if just for testings, I don't remember him giving me the $10.00 and then last time I saw that charger it was much rustier than when I.....gave it away.

I'll think about that next week, I know where there are quite a few 6V and 12V horns,6V batteries and 6/12V chargers altough I already know it won't work all too well.

This would most likely be louder. It would sure beat the *tunk*, *tunk* sound.

While I'm building a nice rider, not after a museum piece when done, I just watched yesterday as a NOS Honda 6v horn go to the purist in the crowd for $113 plus S&H! As I started out saying, I can buy a Hong Kong 12v for $1.95 but the 6v's are more pricey. It was a simple question of noise & economics. I'm busily working ebay for a pocket friendly solution...

Googled "6v horn".

This is the first one that came up. For the old Ghia/VW's

$14.00...worth a look.
