Tesla Model S test drive...Elon Musk hands a journalist a large serving of Fail.

So, apparently there's an auto journalist named John Broder who sort of has a beef about the state of electric vehicles. He pretty much set out to slam any test drive of an EV he could get. What does he get his hands on? A Tesla Model S. His New York Times article pretty much slams it as having failed his test drive.

Elon Musk begs to differ, and then proceeds to hand Broder his ass. It's hilarious to me how busted Broder was. Musk must've spent a week figuring out what actually happened on the test drive.

I hope Musk personally sues his ass to bankruptcy.

Broder sounds like an ass.

I haven't been a big fan of electric cars because of their lack of ability to drive continuously with only brief stops for fuel. That said; I think there are people who get everything they need from an electric. If I lived in a big city, the Tesla Roadster might be my daily driver, with a gas car for trips.

There have been lots of advances in those cars, with Tesla doing some great work. They are pretty darn close to fast enough when it comes to charging time, with a 30 minute charge giving about 150 miles. If you are staying in California, you would be in good shape. It is pretty lame to harm Musk's hard work by making stuff up. If he wanted to see what happened when it ran out of power, fine, but be honest about it. I think Musk has a legitimate case against Broder for slander and maybe even financial loss.

OMFG!!

"...the display said "0 miles remaining." Instead of plugging in the car, he drove in circles for over half a mile in a tiny, 100-space parking lot. When the Model S valiantly refused to die, he eventually plugged it in."

Sounds like Broders responses are pretty much "so and so told me to do this, blah blah, and that's why the car died"

Im inclined to believe the data from the car rather than Broder.

"I stopped at 72 percent because I had replenished more than enough energy for the miles I intended to drive the next day"

If he had the time to charge over night, why the hell wouldn't he just charge to 100% like any normal person would?!

Have you sat in one of those new Tesla sedans? Damn nice.

My 5-10 year goal is to build an energy neutral home (solar and tie-to-grid) that can accomodate charging an electric for 20k miles per year.

While the guy comes across as an oil company shill is it posible that in this case he was just circling looking for a parking space?

Read the link. He was looking for the charging station Tesla sent him to.

Charging stations are not always the easiest thing to find in a parking lot- especially when its full of cars.
