2 into 1 exhaust questions

I had CJ mod my y pipe for a 2 into 1. Bike is a 2013 Adventure non 'R" I am going to run a Akrapovic can with no baffle.

Question # 1. Can I run the bike without installing a program? I have a cable for tune ECU but it is not with me at the moment.I would like to go for a ride but do not want to burn it down.

Question # 2. Would the stock can with cat overheat if I put it on?

I'm considering the same. I think there's a large thread on the subject. If anyone has the link handy, can you kindly post it up?. Thanks in advance.

Done that with no trouble...

I've installed a 2 into 1 exhaust with Akra (with baffle) 3 weeks ago. I didn't change the mapping yet and rode 1000 miles with no problems so far...

I'll try different maps in the next few days, but I'm pretty sure you can go for a spin with the stock map and your new setup...

I would not use the stock can your Akrapovic can is available... Why bother ?

Your bike being FI will notice the difference and adjust accordingly.
Do the 5 min idle and it should self learn before you ride.

I would disagree. The stock FI setup with narrow band sensors will not compensate for significant equipment changes. I run 2 into 1 with Remus with insert. Going 2 into 1 from stock muffler setup should richen the mixture. Shouldn't hurt to run it. But, I believe you will want to remap. Much more so if changing air filter/intake setup.

This is an old mis-conception, the ECU is only able to adjust for altitude changes and exhaust systems are also tuned item so when you play with the layout/design of the pipes, you running the risk of long term damage. The most common mistake is after a pipe mod the bike feels "snappier", this is down to the mixture leaning out which will make your motor run hotter and over time, you can damage the motor.

Best is go for the pipe mod but put it on a dyno and check the before and after if you can, check the AF and if need be, fit a tunable ECU like a PowerCommander.

I've done enough race bikes and road bikes to know, to date after a full pipe and filter as a start, I've ALWAYS had to remap and you'll be surprised how much more power is waiting once you tune the FI....

No you Will be good to go. You will love the 2 into 1 pipe with your akro, put a G2 throttle tube cam system and you will be even more happy.

Thousands of miles spent with my 2/1 refute this: I bolted it on, started it up, and went riding. I may have done the 15-minute, but I don't remember. Anyway, it ran great then & runs great now. No muss, no fuss.

I guess they are all different. Mine is a 2007. First muffler was a single FMF with spark arrester. That setup was rideable but definitely rich. It ran but was sluggish and mileage was not good. I remapped and it improved noticeably. Then went with foam air filter and Remus non SA pipe. That was OK on top but way rich on the bottom. I have since leaned out the 3000 and below range. This is much better.

As I read the OP's question, he wanted to know if he had to remap immediately to avoid damage when he switched to the 2 into 1. It seems to me that any 2 into 1 is going to be more restrictive than any 2 into 2. So I was trying to tell him that he would be richening and wouldn't hurt anything not remapping. But a re-map would probably help. I should have added that it depends on pipe, bike particulars, YMMV and all that stuff.

All good....

I did the 2-1 on my 950 and the only changes I made were to bump the needles up one notch and I added a prefilter. The bike runs rich.
