Oil Suction And Oil Return Pipes From The Sump To The Dry Sump Tank 950 SE?

Good evening gents

Another eventful day in Mexico with our oil return pipe slitting and dumping a sump of oil all over the bike and the road

Had a look on KTM Twins and it appears you have to buy the entire pipe rather than just the rubber Z shaped part.

http://partsfinder.onlinemicrofiche....=13&A=356&B=40

I have emailed them but thought I would ask the brothers too as we need to get it sorted, at the mo we have a straight piece cut to fit but it is not ideal but it will work until we can get the real deal back in place.

I would like to replace both but the cost for the two pipes complete is .... a lot.

Anyone know if the rubber pipes only can be bought.

Cheers men

Z

Can you make the Z out of 2 L fittings and then connect them with some straight tube to see you through, or until you get to a hose doctor/enzed hose place???

Heya Pete

Thanks mate, yeah we have a makeshift piece in place which is doing the job, looks like we are going to have to replace the enture pipe metal and all as they are not separable, will just replace both and be done knowing we have it sorted.

Cheers Andi

If you can find a airport with a shop, some braided stainless with the right fittings can really be routable.

Just a option..

Heya Dave

We have a makeshift piece that is working, place an order with Dillon at Zen Motocycle along with some other stuff that has crapped out.

Be aware fellas (maybe this is not new news) but the feed and return pipes are sold as a until so although the rubber bit might fail you are in for the whole shebang at $200.

See our RR post for our very lucky save from a massive failure ... the gods were shining on us that day.

There are countless of more or less reliable and demanding options. My option ended up being standard 10 mm oil hose (from the Autopart store) with those kind of stainless spirals put outside the hose where it bends. The steel spirals prevent the hose from collapsing at it's bends since the increase by the hose's diamater is prevented by the spiral. NOTE: I dont know the correct word in english for such spirals but I hope my poor explanation is ok. Now two seasons and almost 40000 kms (25000 miles) without any issues.

Buying the complete setup with pipes and stuff is not required.

I like the plastic coated braided stainless, when it finally ages out the failure mode is a seep, not a popped hose.. I've worked on track cars for about 20 years, I never run hot oil through standard hose anymore.. Had too many show stopping failures because of it..

Otherwise I'd swap out the hoses regularly (Ever 3 or 4 years.. )

Cheers..

I would rather replace them with the proper pipes/hoses and tick that box or sure as shit Murphy will come and play in the middle of nowhere with no oil etc.

The cost is small for our trip to have the oil stay in it place.
