I'm thinking about a trip there this late Winter/early spring and was wondering with the way the weather is shaping up this year is anybody would want to predict a good time to go as I have no prior experience with D V. Remember if I freeze or roast my ass off I'll hold you to it.

Secondly, I'll probably trailer the bike because there would be too much snow and cold to ride through to get there so where would be a good place to set up base camp with the truck and safely leave it to go off in the back country camping?
New Mexico, not really new, not really Mexico.

Don't be a wimp, do the ride in August

I did it in 2009 on an air-cooled cruiser, in full head to toe gear. 122F, yay! Seriously though, it's not that bad. Just dress appropriately, drink CONSTANTLY, and you'll be alright.

I think if you look over in regionals west there are a few informational threads. One is about current road conditions. There is a rally in mid march and a thread related to that, too.
I find your lack of faith in the force disturbing.

Late March to early April is best for spring. After snow melts in high country (Hunter Mt) and before it gets hot below sea level in May.

Not sure they allow camping along roads, campgrounds are better anyway also cabins in Goler & Stripped Butte Valley.

some good info here. I would say anytime shortly after this planned trip would be a good time.
