985+ Old Bridges in Missouri

Here are two gpx files of more than 985 old bridges in Missouri. I broke the file into two seperate files (North & South) because of the number of old bridges in Missouri. Most of the bridges are old iron structures. Some are concrete or stone arches. A few are simple wooden decks on iron stringers. There are even a few covered and swinging bridges. Most of the bridges can be crossed but some can not. Most are on public roads, but a few are on private property. The majority of these bridges can be found on a gravel or dirt road. There can be mud, there are a few water crossing and beautiful scenery.
Several of these bridges disappear (torn down/wash away/vandalised) every year.

After the name of the bridge is a code I have given to each one. Example: bullalo rd O-TT= Open Through Truss bridge

O-PT=open pony truss
C-PT=closed pony truss
O-TT=open through truss
C-TT=closed through truss
O-SA=open stone arch
C-SA=closed stone arch
O-CA=open concrete arch
C-CA=closed concrete arch
O-CB=open covered bridge
C-CB=closed covered bridge
O-WB=open wooden bridge
C-WB=closed wooden bridge
O-SB=open swinging bridge
C-SB=closed swinging bridge
O-BS=open bow string bridge
C-BS=closed bow string bridge
rr=rail road
O-KP=open king pin bridge
C-Kp=closed king pin bridge
O-LW=low water bridge
C-LW=closed low water bridge
O-DT=open deck truss bridge
C-DT=closed deck truss bridge
O-WT=open wooden trestel
C-WT=closed wooden trestel
O-CS=open concrete stringer
C-CS=closed concrete stringer
O-OS=open open spandrel bridge
C-OS=closed open spandrel bridge
O-TB=open tee beam bridge
C-TB=closed tee beam bridge

I hope you enjoy these old structures as much as I do!

Brad

Holy crap Brad-----have you been to all of these---some of them-----or none and just did a lot of research ????

Thanks so much Brad-----heck we've all got work to do this year. The cool part about all this bridge finding----is the stuff, neat roads and people you'll find along the way.

Awesome !!

Kim, There are (4) counties (Daviess, Caldwell, Ray & Carroll) next to one another that have 121 old bridges. That is too tempting not to plan on a 3-4 day weekend visiting and photographing them this summer!!

Brad, I spend time in southern iowa and explore the northern counties in Missouri. Beautiful backroads. I am going to put a trip together to do those counties you mentioned. Maybe fall! I look forward to seeing the bridges. We loved the ones in Illinois we saw! BigDog summed it up perfect!

Mark, I have been to a few of these bridges....but not nearly enough!!! I will try and put a dent in them this summer tho. I road a lot in southern Missouri in the 1980s and 90s, just never made my way to the northern portion of the state.
I did a bunch of research (bridgehunter.com) to find the majority of them.

This one was moved to it's current location by Air National Guard and a Chinook, typo Harrison should be Hamilton.

Kim, I have been working on the old bridges in Iowa this winter as well. It might suprise you to know there are areas in Iowa where you can find as many or even more old bridges in just a few countys as what you can see in Missouri. I hope to finish and post this before spring.

Amazing

Thank you for all your work. I am headed for Arkansas in early April and will plan to pick up a few on the way through Missouri.
