Fork tubes are straight, must be a funny picture. One of the tubes is pitted with rust spots. I sanded and polished it, hope it holds air and oil... we shall see. Otherwise, I'll buy a new fork tube.

steering stem

Triples going together:

Stem is FROSTY, it's been in the freezer:

Bit of grease on the stem, heated up the bearing in my girlfriend's favorite skillet, bearing drops on with a light tap:

Races in the freezer, bit of grease and heat up the steering head (heat gun), and the races drop right in:

As Valleryrider recommended, I now have new tapered roller bearings from All Balls for the steering head:

swing bearings

Time for new All Balls swingarm bearings. Same process, grease (I use anti-sieze) and heat up swingarm:

Bearings have been in the freezer for hours, they drop in with a light tap, used a socket as a drift:

Coat of paint:

All Balls parts:

Swingarm is ready for installation. Soon... I hope:

flywheel puller?

Question I posed to Scootern29, but I'll ask all, how do I pull off the flywheel? I've got the nut loose, I suppose I need a flywheel puller?

Hey Ray, sorry I missed your question in my thread. Yes you will need a flywheel puller. I am at work right now so I don't have time to look up the part # for you. Do a search on Ebay for Yamaha flywheel pullers. That's where I got mine and it works on many other models as well.

BTW the threads in the flywheel are left hand. Make sure you run that puller in as far as you can get it or it will pull the threads. That would be a bad scene. I almost did it. Ha Ha

Keep up the good work.

Just trashed my puller.... Threaded in as far as I could get it (into the rust) and after several attempts to loosen the flywheel, No Mo Threads.

The build is looking great Ray!!
