R1200 starting problem

Figured that I'd do this little write up for the next unlucky bastard.

I went to ride to work today, and the bike, an 07 GSA, wouldn't start.

Lights all good, no warnings on the dash, could hear the pump initiate, heard the relay under the seat click, but the starter did nothing. Got 12.4v, quick slave to a second battery, nothing.

Fuck. Dump the gear, hop in the truck.

Got home, hooked it to the truck. Nothing.

Clean the terminals. Nada.

Go after the starter connections. Rien la.

Hot wire to the solenoid. Rolls over. Cool, starter is good.

Check the wire, not getting any juice. Okay...

Relay is clicking, but I got nothing downstream. Since it is activating, then all the safety lockouts are good. Do the clutch in/stand up/in neutral try anyways. Still nothing.

Guess that the relay isn't providing the throughput, so I go to pull it. Kinda tight in the holder after 160k, okay, I'll just undo the mounting screw instead so I can get both hands on it.

At which time, I found the source of evil:

This, I can fix. For free.

Got the old connector out, it has two tabs holding it in place, then comes out the wire side. Though the relay is a straight blade as per any normal relay, the funky oem female part is pretty unique. Find a blade female in my stash (did a little judicious trimming to the oem socket so it'd fit) crimp it on, and assemble.

Key. Wait for the dash to cycle. Hit the button.

Bup-bup, vroom.

Can I get an Amen?
