Lake Gairdner Salt racing 2013
Well after being rained off for the last 2 years we finally got a run on the salt this year.
I ride an old bevel Ducati based on a 1972 750 GT engine, currently 888cc. This is my 3rd visit to the Lake and the first year there I managed 143mph, which was the 900cc record, this year the DLRA have dropped the 900cc class. So now I have to compete in the 1000cc class against Jap bikes making twice the hp. I am not that concerned as my bike is the fastest bevel drive Ducati in the world on salt. There were some very quick times this year, old mate Stuart Hooper confirmed he has the worlds fastest Velo by running an amazing 166 mph, on his lastest version of the bike, the capacity is now down from 750 cc to 650cc but it now runs a rootes supercharger. That makes the bike the fastest Brit single in history. The other half of my team is my mate Snowy on his Harley Sportster, it has some nice S&S parts inside it and it ran 161mph this year missing the class record of 164. Here is a link to some pics of some of the bikes and cars at the event. http://stevecraven.smugmug.com/Other...8967&k=9Drkd6w Cheers Steve |

Hmmmm. Looks like we were neighbours. Almost next door to you. My mate Mal was running the MV Augusta. What a great week. Nice pics.

Fantastic! Thanx for the pix and well done. I work just up the road from the lake, and, sure enough, this year had to work. Bloody! Great stuff from the Velo mob!

Happy it went well for you all. I went in 2010 and loved it, tried taking a crew over the last two years but only ever got halfway there and it was called off.
The bastards held it this year on the 25th wedding anniversary, I had no chance of going. Look out next year, 26 means nothing (or so I will tell her). Interesting it was hot this year, I was expecting that in 2010 so took only t-shirts and nearly froze to death at night. Luckily there was plenty of grog. |

Thanks again godsilla to you and mates for the fuel top up at the lake for me and mates. Great to meet you. Had a spectacular ride down through the gawler ranges from there. Looking forward to heading back out there possibly again next year. Hard to believe that such an event was being held somewhere so remote. Cant really add to much to your set of pics other than view of the lake itself from the viewing area. Cheers ![]() ![]()
