Australasian Safari and Dakar Information Nights

Australasian Safari and Dakar Information Nights

On Friday the 3rd of May and Sunday 5th of May, Dakar Rally representative Chris Evans and Australasian Safari event director Justin Hunt will be conducting information nights in both Perth and Newcastle to answer questions regarding the Australasian Safari, Dakar Rally and the Dakar Challenge.
Chris is an authority on all things Dakar having been involved in rally-raid for over 20 years and participating in 17 consecutive Dakars. He initially worked for Dakar organisers – ASO, before switching to work with five times Dakar winner Cyril Despres.
Chris didn’t cut ties with the organisers completely, taking on a role as Dakar liaison officer for the UK and more recently Australia. His mission is to help potential entrants get to the start line, while at the same time trying to raise the profile of the event.
“Australia is very much on the Dakar organiser’s radar at the moment. You have some very well run events that are perfect for preparing for the Dakar, notably the Australasian Safari, and a very active off-road scene with some world class competitors. It is why ASO has integrated the Safari into the Dakar Challenge for both bikes and cars for 2013. The depth of talent in Australia means that logically a Dakar podium finish in one of the classes can’t be far off and that will have a huge impact on the sport here,” said Chris.
Competitors thinking about entering the Dakar or Safari are encouraged to come to these sessions, which also provides a good chance to socialise and share information with other potential entrants. The information sessions will be held:
Friday 3 May – Perth, SafariHQ, Unit C2/4 King Edward Rd Osborne Park
Safari Sundowner with drinks and nibblies 5pm to 6:30pm
Presentation from 6:30pm onwards
Sunday 5 May – Newcastle, (approx 1.5hrs north of Sydney)
Blackbutt Hotel, 80 Orchardtown Rd New Lambton NSW From 2pm – 6pm
RSVP’s are ESSENTIAL for catering purposes. To RSVP your place at one of the information nights please email info@australasiansafari.com.au .

I'll be going along to the Perth one again ... for the third time I think ... this time I'll actually have to listen as things are getting a little serious with the big gig in January getting closer real fast!
