Same here. The insurance company will try and say that the check has to go to the shop, but at least in Texas, they can't require that. You can get the check in your name and get it fixed where ever you want to.

I can take it any place I want but I have a loan on the bike so the check goes to the shop or lean holder. I am checking to see if the shop will let me keep the old parts. if they will than I will take it to scuderia west.

Ah. Thus may be the rub. The lienholder has an interest in seeing the bike repaired- make sense. Especially if I held the lien.

I had a similar crash last October just out of Moab. Hit a deer around 70mph. I did walk away, but was not quite as lucky as you - dislocated shoulder, broken finger, torn rotator cuff, a few stitches. I had ATGATT (Klim Adventure Rally suit), and the doctors said: "If you weren't wearing that gear, we would not be having this conversatio" Overall, I consider myself very lucky. The bike also faired reasonably well. Crash bars, hard luggage and handle bars took most of the damage. Insurance paid out around $7k, and I am in the process of farkling now.

As it happens, my impact was on the RHS which means I have a LHS black crash bar available. Let me know if you want it.

that was the only leak and the tire was flat so I know 100% that was there before I removed the tire.

Sorry did not see the previous post about the stock factory mounted tire. They must use tire mounting machines at the factory so your no tire irons is right. The theory about a foreign object lodged in there from new might be possible. How else could the damage be there? I would guess mounting tires would be a entry level job at motorbike factory. But now No way to tell now right?
Glad your ok. I have never had a high speed flat yet, knock on wood. What would you say saved a far worst outcome besides ATGATT? Instinct , experience, or just luck ?
Jack

Sideup,
I would guess mounting tires would be a entry level job at motorbike factory. But now No way to tell now right? I would think so but no way to prove thats it had something in it.

I have never had a high speed flat yet. this was the first I have had on a paved road in the dirt it was not a big deal bike was 150 bls lighter and I didn't have the girl on the back.

I will say luck and skill

wheel techs

I for one have had first hand experience with wheel issues from the factory.
My 990 from new had the vibration from 60 -70 mph. Dealer and I suspected front wheel / tire issue as it was felt through the handlebars. Dealer checked front wheel balance. It was fine, he then put a brand new front tire on. No change in vibration. Dealer checked head stem for play, no change. Worked the way to the rear tire. We looked at the rear wheel factory installed wheel balance weights - it was odd that they had an equal number of weights installed and clocked exactly 180 degree out from each other. Why?
Checked the balance on the rear wheel and it was way out of balance. Re-balanced rear wheel , which was so bad it was shaking the entire bike, and problem was fixed. Maybe they mount tires on Fridays, "Now where did I put those wheel weights?".....

Yep, if it has a loan on it it usually has to be fixed at a shop. That is usually required by the lien holder. Not sure if it's a law or not.

Nope, I got hit by a passing pickup on Mex 1. Edge of his bumper touched my rear wheel and down I went.
