Regulator Rectifier failure 950 Adventure?

I hope this is not a bad omen.

I was adjusting the clutch and free play for the Rekluse on my bike today so it was idling with many cracks of the throttle to 5k+ rpm.

This were pretty hot down below and under the set. Could not even touch the alarm box mounted under there.

Well I had noticed that the volts were starting to climb while idling. Usually 14.4 volts while riding. It crept up to 16.8 volts before I shut it down. Went and got my hand volt meter and checked it against the one mounted on the bike and they both read the same but when I started it back up again and let it idle it seemed normal. Never did creep back up.

I am getting ready for a trip in Laos next week and don't want to be stranded again. Last time I was in the mountains of Cambodia with a dead battery.

So is this a sign of the VR going south?

Get the proper Shindengen MOSFET for less money, it's OEM quality used on many top of the line Germand and Japanese bikes.

With that installed I would not bother with carrying a spare.

Lukas- has anyone developed a plug & play MOSFET unit for the LC8 yet- or do these still have to be pieced together?
