Fun day, but definitely not easy! The dunes were quite soft and disorganized, easy to get stuck. Love the 505, it works really well when it comes to making power. About a hundred times today I thought I wished id had this power in Dakar!

Fun to have the whole team spending time together... Nice to share the experience with people who have some of the same reference points as me.

Awesome to have Jenny here, not only to take the burden of updates but for good company as well.

Yes, the briefing is happing as I type, so hopefully the results will be posted shortly...

It was a tough day for many of the riders, especially on the bigger bikes - so expect to see a number of time penalties for missed waypoints and those who elected to cut short the day and return to the bivouac either through exhaustion, or to conserve what little energy they had left for the rest of the week... and this is only day one!

Just had Martin Fontyn on facetime, i saw them sitting at the briefing. Normally the standings are showed after the briefing not earlier.

6 out off the top 7 with EAO after stage one it seems. Guillaume started well but got stuck in a crossing somewhere according to this site;

Hey Brent, Diederick here, I am not competing this year. Just too afraid of the fesh fesh dunes in Tunesia. Maybe next year when the guys come back enthausiastic. Doing Albania Rally again in June, which was a great succes last year. Take care!

Nevermind that Gooo Lukas!
Good luck to my old friend Lukas ...

He always forgets stuff :) And is always late with his prep work.

Here he is still building the bikes for the world altitude record at our first acclimatisation camp at 3770 metres AMSL:

From the Tuareg website:

1st day ‚lost places’:

Mark Smith won this spectacular first stage through the really soft dunes in the motorbike prof category, followed by Oscar Polli only five minutes behind, closely followed by Gwen Backx. In the amateuer group Gintautas Igaris is the lucky winner. The priority of this stage was the dune-riding…you have to go for it or you will go down – sink or swim!

In the car category Team Machacek is on pole position. He did a fabulous race with perfect navigation and clever dune-reading. Followed by Team Tosenovsky and Lipponen/Riihimäki in third place. In the amateur group Team Kleer came in first.

The truck battled through and got there in the end.

82 of 103 riders in the motorbike prof category managed to complete the stage; in the amateur group 22 out of 36 riders. In the car prof category 19 out of 22; in the amateur group 15 out of 16 cars

this is Michele Gallizia (Mego's pard at the Africa Race a few years ago) struggling with soft sand...
