Wow...

So, around the corner from me is a bolt company. I have been able to acquire pretty much any bolt or screw there for the past several years. I took the bolt off my 2011 GSA and told him I needed one that was 90 mm instead of 80 mm in length. So, off he went into the back and came back 10 minutes later and told me he didn't have anything similar to it. Wow... Talk about a hard bolt to track down.

I had the same reaction at SoCal Bolt.

I can weld one up for anyone, but I can't weld stainless so it will have to be painted.

My 2011 GSA uses the 90mm. If you take off the alu spacer that holds the handgard, then 80mm is enough but since the Kaoko is longer than the OEM bar end weight, you need a longer bolt.

Thanks, Kaoko and re-sellers, for offering this kit for the 2011 GSA and not mentioning the need for the longer bolt beforehand.

We may have a winner

Gentlemen (and I use that term loosely),

I'm in comms with a bolt shop in the UK who is looking into this. If they can do it, I'll turn the bolts around (at cost) here in the flea market.

Simply put, stand by...

Stand by is over! Got my first shipment of bolts in, and we're good to go! Kaoko is installed and works fine. Look for a Flea Market thread soon. PM if interested, and I'll forward you the link when it's created.

WooHoo!

This is all rather odd.

I got two Kaoko just a week or so ago for BMW R1200GS, one for 2006 one for 2008, they are the same.

They both bolted straight on. Stock handguards, stock bolt, stock washer/ spacer thing.

The Kaoko looks to be exactly the same size as bar end weight, so why would you need a longer bolt?

James,

Some of the R1200Gs bikes have a slightly deaper threaded insert. I have seen them both ways. I took mine off and comparred it with Jason's and both of ours were deaper in. Both of us have 05 bikes, though I have seen newer bikes with this issue as well.

So the ones with deeper inserts come with a longer bolt?

Not necessarily. The Kaoko is just a bit deeper than the standard bar end weight for the early bikes, so it won't work with the stock 80mm bolt.
