I tried to upload the Puppy Dog Route, but the file is slightly larger than ADV allows for .GPX files. Please go to this website and you'll find the most recent version, which today is the 2012 version.

Bovina, NY?

Visian found a route through New York, CannonsvilleRider helped:

Bovina, NY?

How's the dual sport riding here?

A well-known adventure rider says that there is no adventurous way to ride from Boston to the BMW MOA national rally this summer in Bloomsburg, PA.

This just can't be right. I've been in this area before, on the way to the outdoor MX nationals in Unadilla, and we rode all kinds of great woods roads and some dual-sport pavement (dang, you all get big ol' potholes up there!!).

So please download the GPS route I've attached below... its small section of an adventure ride through the area to the north and west of the Catskill Park. I just mapped out what looked good in Google Maps, but local knowledge always helps.

Advice appreciated!

Ian

ps => advice on any good routes through upstate NY, east or west, appreciated.

Start with Rt 30, detour into the Beaverkill valley for some dirt road, return to 30, detour at Shinhopple to go down back side of the river on DEC forest road on old RR bed, go over the hill to Rt 10 for Cannonsville Reservoir.

Start at Deposit, go over hill, make a dogleg on 4 lane Rt 17 to get to back side of river in Hale eddy, detour just before Hancock on old RR bed, make another detour for dirt and scenic view, continue down back side of river, cross at historic bridge to see hawks nest on Rt 87, then go down old mine rd, (maybe the oldest road in America).

Technical challenge 1

From Equinunk to Kellams Bridge there is a back river road, several miles of this is basically unmaintained with 1 section, the waterfall, where you definitely do NOT want to fall. Not recommended for heavily loaded bike or riding alone.

Dirt roads or trails in Western Catskills

Telstar 2112 was looking for tracks in the Catskills, Debaisly helped out, ADVcracker too:

Dirt roads or trails in Western Catskills?

I will be spending some time this summer in Walton, NY in the western foothills of the Catskill mountains and am looking for some decent dirt roads or trails to ride on an XT225. I am south of Oneonta, east of Binghampton, north of Hancock, and West of Delhi. Anything local would be great but I can also throw the bike on the rack and would be interested in anything within about a 1 -2 hr drive, maybe 2+ if the place is good! Looking to ride rough trails/roads for a 3-4 hours each day and maybe stay in a motel and ride more the next day. Maybe near fingerlakes or near adirondaks? NE Penn? Any suggestions or GPS tracks is greatly appreciated.

here is a great suggested route , hope it loads for you , on this route you will also see plenty of side roads you may want to explore, but this would be a real nice ride , and you can see its a 60 mile loop , so it will take a good bit of time.

Bear Notch Road NH Track?

Anyone got it? This road runs from Passaconway on RT 112 AKA Kancamagus Highway N to Route 302 in Bartlett. Very scenic, but closed November 1 through the winter, and more importantly, doesn't show up on mapquest!

TIA!

Bear Notch Rd Track file

This is from a trip I did up there in 2002. The road definitely closes in winter based on weather vs date if I am not mistaken. The way the gates close and lock I don't see how you would get around/under them when closed, even on a bike.

I agree on all the roads listed above. We did a Catskills ride just yesterday. I have a .gpx file of it that includes Platt Clove Rd, Cty RT 42 and 47, Rt28a, and some back roads in Saugerties. We started / ended at the Rhinecliff Bridge.

Enjoy

HERE'S the link to the GPS file. Dont recalc it, or youll ruin it. If you need to recalc it to match your mapset version, 1st duplicate it, then go ahead and do a recalc. Then drag the recalc'ed, altered one back to match the original.

And HERE is the RR report on it.

Hi, Here's the converted file into GPX tracks.
I use GPSvisualizer.com todo the magic.
And i added it in to the mapsource file with a version saved as a .gpx file

Note a .png file is best to use when your taking a screen view of MapSource .. jpg files are best for photos.

Lewis county has published some of their trail maps on the web ... http://www.lewiscountychamber.org/atv_maps.php

The northern loop on the attached track is covered on the Croghan map and the most interesting part of this track. There are a number of truck trails there and the state has purchased some easements. Hopefully they will keep it open.

Loop containing Brown's Tract and Limekiln - Cedar River road, with a little detour over to the Chimney Mountain trailhead.

My experiences were similiar to enduro0125's. I think September is probably the quietest time there, after the summer tourists and before hunting season.

Both times I've rode through there I've seen moose tracks - the Moose River Plains lives up to its name! It really is a nice ride.

Larger 2 day loop. I think the interesting parts are at South Creek lake, which looked like it would be a good place to camp for the night, and along Tooley Pond Road. Tooley Pond road is paved but it was a nice ride along the Grass River and had a nice view of Nelson Falls. I didn't see any other people or vehicles until I got to south end where there were a few camps.

Route containing dirt roads Powley-Piseco Road, Military Road, and Farr Road, North Lake Road (unpaved at north end). There are a bunch of primitive campsites around North Lake, and a little further up the road at South Lake. There are primitive campsites along Powley Piseco too.

There is a motorcycle restriction on the conservation easement at the north end of North Lake. I thnk the state should have gotten more for our money...
