Any feedback on replacement suspension for R1200GS Adv ESA?

I am researching replacement shocks for my ’08 Beemer Adv with ESA. Since I want to keep the ESA I have four options:

1. Öhlin original Mechatronic based on Öhlins TTX36/TTX39 ~$4,000
2. Öhlin from Twalcom USA based on Öhlins 46DR ~$2,000
3. Wilbers WESA ~$1,500
4. BMW stock replacement ~$4,000

Do you have any experience to share?

I went the Wilbur's route a few years ago. They worked super, gave a bit more planted feel and better feedback than the stockers.

After 40,000 miles they are in dire need of service. Even the slightest obstacle jars the handlebar and I do quite a lot of off-road riding.

Not The BMW ones!!!

Wilburs for me.
Put them on my 2009 gsa at 15000km..
Like night and day..

Then pulled them off at 21000km
Put them on my 2012 gsa at 500km..
Happy again..

Any of the shocks you have mentioned will be a huge improvement over stock.
In my opinion the stock shocks are sprung for 60kg fast riders or 80kg slow riders.
If you dont fit into the above then they are just way, way to soft..
Put a pillion or luggage on and there even worse..
All of my friends that ride gsa's all ride with the luggage setup turned on when they are solo no luggage, i was the same.
This is to compensate for spring rates that are to soft.
I purchased wilburs as the difference between aftermarket shocks is very marginal, i have used ohlins, white power and penske on other bikes. But unless your racing or riding really rough roads real fast, the difference is not worth the $$$
Others will say they love there ohlins, and rightly so.
Any of the mentioned shocks are top quality units except the BMW one!!
Pick the size of the hole you wish to leave in your wallet, and buy them.
You will not regret it..
Make sure you get spring rates and damping built to suit your riding style and terrain. Be realistic, are you really going to do the isle of man on a GSA??

The Ohlins Mechatronic are available for about $2,800. I talked to my dealer and Ohlins are making some changes so they may be back ordered for a while.

I just installed the T36 & T39 or 678. &. 679. Ohlins
Removed ESA I was told it would be awhile before the electronic fix is to come out. BMW has always short cut their suspensions my experience so I had time$ to replace them early
It is not that hard but not a job for the timid either.

Replaced the suspension with WilbersESA in 4 weeks of getting my brand new GS last year. The best upgrade ever. Found the WP spring rate to soft. The SHOWA esa on my 2010 bike carried me better.

Ohlins ESA is a fantastic system and soon to be even better shortly with more adjustability than any standard adjustable shock when the stand alone ecu becomes available. Keep in mind the Ohlins if fully serviceable from just about any dealer in the country that works on Ohlins suspension.

I road one of the first Ohlins ESA equiped R1200 GS's in the state and was very impressed. Then I had the opportunity to hammer a GSA with the system. I couldn't believe how it transformed the bike. Fantastic on road and the off road was unbelievable. I could hit stuff so hard and fast I was concerened I'd bend a rim before upsetting the chassis or me the rider.

I can't find the post but someone on another BMW forum had Works Performance replace the shocks utilizing the factory ESA. They were very satisfied. http://www.worksperformance.com/html...s_bmw_esa.html

Put TTX's (non ESA)on my 08GSA about a year ago and they're fantastic. Don't use the bike off road and it gets a lot of 2up, pack mule type of riding.

The stock shocks were shit from the beginning unless you baby the bike. Like riding a pogo stick. Since I'm cheap I suffered with it for 24K miles...they didn't get any better.

Can't go wrong with Ohlins. Oh...mine were about $2K from Pashnit. Mounted 'em myself. About a 6 pak but no problems.

Just put the Wilbers WESA on my 2010 gsa with about 20k miles and all that I can say is wow! Me with lightly loaded luggage is about 350# so factory suspension pretty much wallowed in whatever setting I had it on. Only have one short ride but it is a completely different bike. Much more planted in corners but the biggest change is how much more confident it feels in gravel and washed out roads. Wish I would have done this about 20k miles ago.

I am thinking about these shocks.

What do you think of their performance?

What type of riding do you do?

Just put on Yacugar on my 1200GS and exorcised the ESA. Personally I'm not a big fan of ESA since it dumbs down the suspension.

I do 60% off road 40% on. I purchased the Yacugars from The Beemershop and love them! Great service too. One reason I went with them was the steel body which is more durable plus they are bladder type vs piston.

You really can't go wrong with any of the top name suspension brands, they are all great products.
