Keep working!
See if you can blow out the line that vents to the atmosphere from the canister. I had a similar problem with a noticeable vacuum when I popped the filler cap. Seems that some kind of insect made a home in the vent tube. Blew him away and all has been good ever since.

Take the failure prone Evap system off and leave it off, I did and I can't wait for some of that global warming (that everyone's been talking about) to hit the East Coast.
