Trade my klr?

I have a 2008 klr with 16k miles. Has crash bars, big bore kit, saddlebags, skid plate, throttle lock, aluminum hand guards, all the good stuff.good condition as I haven't taken it off-road since I just got the protection stuff. I just found a 2002 Suzuki vstrom 1000 bone stock which I have been wanting so I can get a touring style bike and have a drz 400 for the fun stuff. They're willing to do a straight trade and I can probably get a full tune up thrown in..

The only issue is this bike already has 60k miles. It's in great condition and looks new but I can't revert mileage.. my question is, is it worth it?

I'd really appreciate some honest outside advice, anything is appreciated.

What are they asking for the v strom ?
The KLR is probably worth about $3,500.

They're asking 3900 for it, I figure with the roughly 1200-1500 of modifications the KLR'd be worth closer to 4000-4200, but it would be a straight trade regardless. The trade has a middle man of a local bike garage, so I can probably get a full check up and swap out 1 or 2 things along with the trade, just not sure if it's a "fair" trade so to speak, i'm familiar with KLRs but very foreign to vstroms, I just know the main 3/4 problems from google results, no idea on value numbers

There's the rub. You never get the money back you pump into improvements and farkles unless you happen upon somebody who wants exactly what you have done to it.... Just pretend it is stock... Some people don't like the idea it has been wrenched on. Anyway, back to the V-Strom. Alot of miles, yes. You say it looks well maintained. Take it for a ride, does it shift well? Run smooth and power feels good? I will go with my gut if all that seems ok but a compression test and a leak down speaks volumes..

I think your bike is worth $4,000, but I said 3500.00 because I feel that it would sell in a reasonable time at that price.
It can be tough getting what something is worth nowadays.

maybe take the extras off your klr and make them do the service on the vstrom if they go a straight trade. you can get back a little money for the extra parts to put into the vstrom too. i know if i want a certain bike i will do a trade even if my bike is worth more if the bike is what i want. the last trade i did was i traded my 03 bmw 1150gs with 100,000 miles straight across for a 02 f650gs dakar with about 15,000 miles. it was pretty even because of the miles and i wanted the dakar pretty bad!

That's a good point, I'm looking in to it too much I guess. I want the bike,I know it'll last just as many miles as I can expect my klr to before it would've died, and I want it more than this one.. I think I'll try your suggestion.

I've actually owned two '08 KLR's and two V-Stroms ('03 & '05). All four bikes have been stone reliable and each have their individual but different appeals.

If money is a concern, I agree with a previous posters comments. Take the accessories off and sell on the KLR650 website. I've sold more farkles there than I would want to admit.

Only two negatives of the '02 V-Strom is the non-adjustable windshield and the weak clutch hub springs which can cause a "shutter" in the 3000 to 3500 rpm range. Takes a shimming of the springs to retension them. Had 38,000 absolutely trouble free miles on my last V-Strom when I traded it in and would not have hesitated taking it to Alaska again. Dealer had an '04 on the floor with 96,000 miles and it had been trouble free as well according to the previous owner.

Only other comment I'd make is that newer used V-Stroms with less miles can be found for the same money.
