Out of the price range in any event, unless the KLR sells. The new rules of the game says $6k-ish boys

Was that the yellow one on t/me in wellington ?? I almost put up a link to it but figured you woulda seen it already
Why not just repower the klr ? Then you could do it all stealthy like, and SWMBO would never know

A street triple might be just the tipple - if I wasnít focussed on getting a twin

I took yesterday and today off and, on the basis that, as we all know - 6's and 9's sometimes get confused I went to Tokroroa and rode the 950SM. It was a nice bike and fitted me really well. I got to ride it through some glorious backroads. Prolly much more bike than I could ever use.

It was comfy, had a great ride, the stability in turns was nice as was the mid range omph. It got a bit harsh when revved out but that was when the scenery was gobbing past at a fair old rate. He wasnít negotiable on price so I said I'd give it some thought and get back to him

I stayed in Putaruru last night and took and incredibly convoluted route to New Plymouth (took 6hrs). In NP I road a slightly tatty and unloved 03 SV1000 naked and I absolutely loved it. Sporty riding position but still comfy, nice mid range and awesome top end. road it around some great backroads near the mountain and didn't want to give it back. Even with earplugs in the sound from the carbon mufflers was totally magic.

He was asking 5900 and I offered 4500 (no reg or wof - needs $500 spent and will never be mint) . I came up to 4800 and he came down to to 5000 and thatís where we parted company.

There are 5 naked SV's on tardme at the moment - I'll see if I can get a tidier newer one for 6-7.

Call me odd for preferring a toyota corrolla over a 911 but I suppose thatís what you get from someone who buys 3 klr's in a row.....

How tall was the 950sm? Was the seat height stupidly high.

I get it mate, last year I was getting bored with my XT and rode my brothers Hyosung GT650 for the first time.
And WOW, that was fun....for the first 20 or so KMs till my hip started cramping up.

Nice bike, just not for me.
I have since found the SV's have better ergonomics for me and think you could do a lot worse than buy an SV.

It's funny you're attracted to the SV's as I always have had the feeling they are the KLR of the road bikes.

With or without the undergarments?

I wish I was a trapper I would give a thousand pelts
to sleep with pocahontas to find out how she felt
in the morning on the fields of green
in the homeland she'll never see.

DR, surely?

Really though the SV is just a re-badged TL, to expunge some market hatred. And the TL was supposed to be a shit-hot bit of kit (for a japper), a blend of GSX-R thou' and Ducati twin. But I dunno how well the original transposed into the SV bikes.

The SM was about the same as a klr - so a bit tricky for a stumpy fella

With anything sporty the ergo's and the ride quality quickly became deal breakers for me. The nekkid SV fit me better and rode better than anything else I tried except the 950SM (which had revalved suspension and a trick 'rider' seat)

You could be right - maybe I choose blander bikes because I value utility over charisma (and then eventually get bored - although I did clock up 40K fun km on the klr trifecta).

For me its the v twin that creates the interest - its got a lovely creamy midrange which makes cruising along fun and (compared to what I'm used to) fair stonks along when you head for the red-line (rated supposedly at 116hp/187kg) - to my uneducated mind it feels meatier than the 950sm. If it had a typical jap 4 like a bandit 1250 motor it would lack interest. It seems to me like what I had hoped a scrambler could be like.

Well my search appears to be at an end - clutching a fist-full of cash I hop on the big bird on Saturday morning to go and pick up my new toy
