Well Mark haven't seen you for a while so maybe we'll end up doing some road rides sometime soon.

I don't frequent this place much but came over from KB to wrap up the Pukemanu Ride and saw this thread for the first time. Made interesting reading for sure and I hope you do like your choice for a while to come.

I keep all my bikes for a long time and much prefer the devil I know than to change them often.

My VFR is now 20 years old. It suits me being a short arse and I'd say the SV is definitely a better choice for someone your height - you would find a VFR far too compact I am sure.

Hi Merv

I'd be keen for a loop of the 'rapa sometime soon if you are interested (I just love route 52 and the coffee at Pongaroa is hot and wet...

Well I've ridden the sv 3 weekends in a row and I have to say that I'm very happy with it.

Something like a 950 smr probably makes more sense given the bumpy back roads I prefer but I really like the slightly sporty riding position and the naked 'oldish school' looks of the sv. Most modern nakeds look a bit transformerish to me - headlights should be round.

I've just been on a quick loop (90 minutes) over the Paekakariki Hill up to Upper Hutt then back to Waikanae via the Akatarawa Rd and am really loving the grunty engine.

Interesting that 5 cars pulled over to let me past in the tight Akatarawa Rd which hardly ever happened on the klr. I suspect the pipes wake them up in no uncertain terms.....

I need to get a set of tires - it will be interesting to see how much difference they make.

Just caught up on thread. Congrats :) nice choice. I think SV's & VTR's are sadly underated bikes. I like the suzuki engines more but prefer the honda ergos. However the naked SV's are even better. If you ever get bored with it... look for some TL1000R bits... 135bhp could be entertaining in a naked bike ,)

more horsepower is the last thing I need - unless I can find some more self control to go with it.

Yes I'm going to have to perfect the technique of blasting up behind cars and doing this noisy last minute deceleration just to maximize the message (I have a natural talent for it so perfecting it won't be hard)

Well the klr is on tardme and the trials bike will be this prepared for sale this weekend (it seems to be the source of all my recent back problems judging by the way I currently feel after Sunday's little potter in the hills)

Once these bikes are sold, if the urge to adventure ride gets too strong to ignore, I'll buy something like a dr650 seeing on road comfort won't be so important.

I thought he'd already stepped out???? Didn't he buy a slower KLR at the last change over? And admitted to liking it?

Yikes!! .....out of the frying pan and into the frying pan

Been thinking of parting with my Rev3 and replacing it with a 250 freeride, but might wait a while. I've been burned before buying the first run of a new model bike so would be good to see the reviews of owners after they've had some use.

nope - 685 is simply a happier motor - smoother, revier a teeny bit quicker etc
If I'd decided to keep the last klr long term I would have put a big bore in it.

all the big bore kits in the world couldn't turn it into an exciting motor, unfortunately.

great wee engine, shit brakes and a big question mark over the electric only starting. ktm don't exactly have a great track record with starter motors on 2 stroke.....

any more thoughts about a 690 replacement?
