Yes i did that one the previous weekend. i especially love the bit at the end of the West bank Mot where the trees grow over the road. bart you really need to bring your camera down & get some artsy photos of it- very pretty.
Almost as cool as the witches forest by Maruia hot springs on the Lewis pass.

Yup that West Bank bit is pretty sweet

I don't think that there is a nicer bit of road in the country (if'n you like fast open twisties) than the chunk between the summit of Lewis Pass and Reefton - those forresty bits are glorious.

I need to get back down that way before winter sets in.

x 2 My favourite bit of NZ road, particularly the 'tree tunnel'...when it's not windy and throwing bits of itself at you anyway =D

I love riding on tree lined roads - other than the western half of the Lewis and the lower part of the West Coast there don't seem to be a lot of decent stretches of tree lined roads around.

Can't think of much in the lower North Island

There is a couple up around Rotorua where you ride thru bush remnants

I agree about tree lined roads. One reason that we don't see a lot of them up here is local body attitude to safety and visibility. It's about being able to exit safely without hitting something. Remember the straights north of Shannon with all the willows hanging over?

Whenever I'm down the West Coast where the Rimus hang over the road, dripping with Astelias, I'm amazed that someone from Fultons/Downers hasn't bowled them over.

Perhaps all of us grey tops should be thankful since we seem to be falling off our bikes all the time.

The reserve on SH1 south of Hunterville was bypassed years ago. I initially thought of that too.

I went for a pushie ride up Waikanae river yesterday and realized (d'oh) that the trees are what really make that ride special.

Tree lined roads are cool but riding under a tree canopy is just the greatest

I've just been looking through all my old photos and the ones with really great tree lined roads/tracks seem to most often be on the West Coast.

Problem with looking through all my old photos is that its making me hope that the klr doesn’t sell....

Might take my camera with me tomorrow morning when I do the Akatrawa/Whitemans Valley/Paekak Hill Loop

Remember it's all 60kph thru the Paekak Hill Rd now. Last time I went thru (on the way to Polished Rockers) the police had speed traps set up. My friend Mike tells me he never bothers going thru there in the weekends now...

Yup

I passed a cop there last Saturday - I was going 90 - I was really surprised that he didn’t do a u turn and chase me - I saw his brake lights and indicators come on as I passed.

there was also one at the upper hut end of the Aka's in the 50k zone - fortunately Andy warned me.

Are you going up Takapari tomorrow?
