Water pump at 34,000 miles

The prior owner said this shaft was changed 10,000 miles ago. I doubt that.

Well maybe the shaft but not the sealing ring, the red one is a old type. After 2006 they used a more gray one (correct me if I'm wrong) . That is with the Adventure I saw a new SuperEnduro from 2007 with the red sealing ring. But then again 10,000 miles. It happens, even with the gray sealing.

Correct, starting from 2007 (at least on this side of the pond) KTM upgraded the seal & shaft, the red one is the old type.
Anyways shaft wear varies on every bike, i changed the old red seal after 32000km and the shaft was just a bit worn, surely not as bad as yours.

The circlips got stuck on the shaft and ate the seal? That's what made it bend i suppose.

Nope. The old red seal was stuck in the case. I couldn't pry it out. So, I took the circlip off of the back of the shaft and starting driving the shaft out assuming that the circlip would push the seal out as well. No such luck; the seal had adhered to the aluminum of the case. The shaft and circlip ripped the inner part of the seal out of the way and left the out part in the case. It took a lot of prying/cursing to get the rest of the seal out. But, it came out. No question but that thing had been in there a long, long time. I'm thinking since 2005.

Let's just assume that that's not the case.

Now I get to tear into the rest of the bike to see if the PO (Prior Ors-hole) actually did the valve checks in the past. The bike came to me with 24,000 on it and the assertion that the valves were just checked. The front valve cover was leaking, like maybe somebody had checked the valves and just failed to get the cover seated well??? We will see. We will see.

And that is why i do things myself. If things are done bad i only have to blame myself and my wallet won't be lighter.

edit: Just got my WP out. The seal is red aswell and was a pain to get out. Had to demolish it.

I always write the mileage the WP seal was changed right on the WP cover. I work on a lot of bikes and the owners just can't remember where the briefcase is.

Pssst...want to see my shaft??

10k miles? It's possible.

My shaft had some nice new grooves worn into it at only 12k miles.

At 34,000 miles I'm thinking it would look much, much worse.
