Movie night- Rodney McDonald, long time friend, founder and director of the non-profit Emergency Response Services for Latin America "ERSLA" www.ersla.org is visiting the Atlanta area this month. In order to support his fundraising efforts I have decided to host a "movie night" at my house.

We will be showing two shor...t videos on issues in Nicaragua and Rodney will have a brief presentation about the work his organization has been doing over the past five years. Donations will be accepted at the event if you like what you hear, also the organizations high quality coffee will be available to purchase. There will also be prizes offered during the event provided by one of the organizations sponsors Mountain Khakis.

The videos will provide a great overview of Nicaragua today. The television episode "Anthony Bourdain No Reservations in Nicaragua will provide a current look at the country since the revolution in 1979 where the Sandinistas gain power over Somoza, then lost it, and have regained control since 2006. Rodney also worked on the episode and will be able to provide more detailed information concerning the status of the country today.

The other video will be a film called Volar en Linea Recta "Fly in a Straight Line" was directed and produced by a young man named Douglas Cushnie. Douglas has been visiting Nicaragua for the past several years and was moved by the pressures of rural youth to get involved in the drug trade. This film was produced in a small mountain community in Northern Nicaragua and all the actors are local participants.

Both short videos combined will provide a general overview of Nicaragua of Nicaragua today, something that is very complex to define.

still meeting?

I see the last post was in May (and I've just gotten my bikes on the road again).

Folks still meeting at Twain's/Augustines?

It would be cool to meet some kindred spirits.
