May 27 Portsmouth VA Memorial Day Parade

The Tidewater ADV Group (TAG) is forming up again for an appearance in the Portsmouth Memorial Day parade. We had a great time in the past saluting the Veteran's and bringing something new to the parade.

Typically this event conflicts with other ADV campouts, but I'll put it out there again and see if we can get a group together.

Everyone is welcome.

Here's the scoop:

129th Consecutive Memorial Day Parade
Monday May 27, 2013
Portsmouth VA

parade starts at 1100 - Rain or Shine
Check-In starts at 0930 at Norcom High School on High Street.
The route is straight down High Street and ends at Crawford.

This is not a Mardi-Gras type parade, but it is a good time. It can be quite HOT and the bikes appreciated us doing some slow circles and other Shriner type pattern driving to keep them cool. I wouldn't mind getting together to practice a little before parade day.

There is no cost to participate, I've got the application and will manage that end of things. Reply here or PM me to sign up. I will contact you via PM to get some basic info.

Here's the guidance to the Participants from the City Event Coordinator:

The parade goes on rain or shine!

The Memorial Day Parade is a solemn occasion and all are expected to dress and act accordingly.

Check in at Headquarters (tent on corner of High Street & Jamestown Avenue). Participant unit numbers will be provided in advance, if you include an email address on your registration form.

Lineup of units begin at 9:30 a.m. at I. C. Norcom High School on the High Street side.

The parade route is along High Street, from I. C. Norcom High School to the corner of High and Crawford Street.

Bands need to play as they pass the reviewing stand and continue playing to the end of the route.

All units need to keep moving as they pass the reviewing stand. No Stopping PLEASE!

Only two vehicles per unit permitted with the exception of car clubs/automobile associations and Veteran groups.

Vehicles must have a colorful sign with 2 letters identifying their unit. Military units must have a designed person to hold your unit number.

Vehicles are also encouraged to decorate with bunting, bows & flags.

Absolutely no substitutions of one participant for another.

Appropriate dress is required; no blue jeans or provocative clothing, PLEASE!

Parents of band members and participants will NOT be allowed to walk with units; only 4 official escorts per unit allowed. This rule will be strongly enforced this year.

Participants must be first grade or older & MUST be able to walk the entire parade route without parental supervision; NO STROLLERS PERMITTED.

No throwing of candy, toys, treats, etc., into the crowd permitted.

Inappropriate units, such as hearses or something commercial in nature, will not be permitted.

Only the number of vehicles pre-registered will be allowed to participate in the parade.

The last line is important, I need to get the registration in by Tuesday April 30th.

Post Up or PM me if you'd like to attend. I'll need just a little information to include you on the application.

Okay... the Parade NEEDED us today. Only two groups of citizen/veteran motorcyclists, both of the Cruiser variety. I will be riding next year solo if necessary to represent something other than loud & proud.

It is a great event with many, many veterans in attendance.
