They said to remap only if I want gains and they say to definitely remap using their doors which we won't, we will be sing the precleaner too, in our case it would be rejet cos the SE is carbed.

My thoughts are the same, happy with the grunt just wanting better serviceability.

Thanks, man. Yup, problem solved. I just got done reinstalling it. It is very important to make sure and seat the filter down onto the intake trumpets far enough that the top of the trumpet sits just inside the open cavity in the filter (as I explained in this post: http://advrider.com/forums/showpost....6&postcount=75). This is how you know the filter is seated down far enough. The airbox lid still touches the filter, but only very lightly on both top corners. This light contact is normal and no big deal. It won't effect anything. Now that I have installed it properly I have come to the conclusion that this filter is the deal for those of us who want easy non-fiddly, non-tinkery install, easy serviceability, and aren't worried about gaining 1 or 2 HP. I believe this filter is it. After I have a few thousand miles on it I'll report back. But as it sits right now, this is the ticket! Great work Uni Filter Australia!

PS my Seat-o-the-pants dynamometer shows no difference in power or throttle response between:

  • The stock paper filter and the stock airbox intake snorkel installed at the same time
and

  • The Uni main filter and the Uni prefilter both installed at the same time

Great news, I wouldn't have thought Uni would send out a dud as they have a good name.

Nutha two weeks before we get to Antigua and we will have our kit installed with foam filter and precleaner .

Uni has sent me a diagram on how to properly install the NU 1426 KIT for the 990. Thought I'd share:

I put some more miles on the bike today. Still working great.

UNI Pre-Filter

Question: I recently installed the UNI Prefilter- (still have paper filter in place) and cold starts require full choke now. Before UNI install, bike fired up with 1/2 or no choke. Would adding the prefilter require idle jetting change or adjustment?? I wouldn't think prefilter would affect the idle A/F mix that much.

Being you are mentioning a choke I only assume you're talking about a carb'd 950. Installation of the prefilter has required re-jetting for some, yes. Earlier in this thread a couple people mentioned they had to re-jet with the prefilter. On the 990 FI I just installed the Uni prefilter and Uni main filter, then did the 15 minute idle. All is great.

Thanks, yes 950. I looked back & saw the post from Boatman.

Boatman: what jetting/adjustments changes are required for the prefilter?

Keen to know to, we are on totally factory settings with Maya and about to put in the precleaner and MW-R filter.

If the precleaner is too restrictive we might do foam at least in one door or maybe two by drilling a number of holes in the triangle then glueing some foam in there, will see what happens as the gas usage will tell.

I'm not far from factory,,,, upped the mains, already had the needles raised, adjusted the floats (this made a big difference)

I'll find my paperwork tommorrow.

I wouldn't say the prefilter is too restrictive but it did make the bikes run leaner and I could tell the difference. Not in raw power but just overall running.

Now that Griz found he wasn't installing the Uni correctly I have it back in my mind.... just need them to produce a 950 version. With that installed I may do away with the pre filter and experiment with opening the top of the airbox in some way

Just to clarify, adding restriction will richen the air/fuel mixture not lean it out. The prefilter will supposedly 'restrict' air flow, so it richens the mixture. Same thing that happens at altitude due to lower oxygen content in the air. Less oxygen/'air' means richer.

So prefilter is less restrictive than snorkel?

Since more choke is needed, the mix is leaner, which means more air=less restriction. So Uniprefilter is less restrictive than snorkel ?

I wouldn't have thought it would have made an ounce difference at startup? ..... maybe at higher RPMs
