Michigan offroad maps for my new 2 me Nuvi550
I bought a used 550 and have no clue how to use it really. I bought it cause I am going to start trail riding with my 11 year old and really dont want to get lost with him so I figured a GPS would be a good idea now. I used to ride Rose City/Mio area alot and just want to know can I put in detailed maps of that area and a few others like St Helen and Baldwin as well? I am hearing you download them to your computer and then to the Garmin unit. I need a little tutorial maybe, but also who has these maps of Michigans ORV trails that I can download? I took the kid out to Gladwin last year for our first adventure on his XR80 and what a hoot it was riding with him
. Im so used to blasting in the old days with the buddies I didnt know you could go slow and see the surroundings too He didnt like the sand at all and I cant blame him, gotta find some hard pack for his tiny wheels this year.

I use the Garmin City Navigator maps. Lots of details.
I don't think the Nuvi 550 handles tracks, just routes. The MCCCT trails are in track format and I don't think they would download into your GPS. Maybe someone that has the 550 will chime in too. Good luck, MrHix |

Send a PM to 2TrakR. He will square you away on loading Michigan ORV trail maps into your unit. Very helpful fellow.

Getting lost was a big part of the adventure back in the day. I don't blame you for not wanting to get lost with a little one along. A couple of ADV guys that I've ridden with have GPS and its kind of nice. Riding sand is all about speed and its hard for anyone on a tiddler bike to master it.
Enjoy the time with the kid.

Thread moved to LDT forum.
Working with a Nuvi 550, you will find that Jeramy's info works well because it is a map that loads, as opposed to loading tracks. You can search for information on the difference in routes vs tracks. The Nuvi 550 does not easily handle the track files that you see shared here. Do a search on the Nuve 550, and tracks vs. routes, and you will find lots of threads that discuss the issue.
